- Provide leadership to the Pension Accounting Reporting and Analytics team of two by identifying and evaluating resource requirements, hiring, coaching, training, developing staff and managing performance.
- Champion the need for change within the team to encourage continuous learning, technology skills upgrade and process improvement.
- Recommend and prioritize initiatives and projects to team leadership that aligns with the Pension Accounting team's short-term and long term goals.
- Act as subject matter expert on pension accounting reporting and analytics processes. Evaluate the needs to update cross-functional processes and implement changes that lead to improved process efficiency and effectiveness.
- Lead the documentation, update and enhancement of operational procedures; Remove knowledge barriers and address key-person risk by conducting education sessions, promoting cross-trainings within the team and knowledge sharing with outside teams.
- Assist Director with strategic planning by providing observation and analysis based insights that facilitates better resource allocation, process change, risk mitigation and team engagement.
- Oversee and review month-end / quarter-end financial close activities (manual journal entry, reconciliation, financial trend analysis etc.) with the goal to ensure timely, accurate and complete recording of transactions in the GL.
- Accountable for the A&F reporting as well as other quarterly and annual financial and regulatory reporting tasks.
- Oversee the preparation of Financial Statement note disclosures related to contributions and benefit payments and assist with the MD&A commentary in HOOPP's Annual Report as it relates to net pension cashflow.
- Work closely with Plan Operations Actuarial and Reporting team to obtain and share insight on pension payment trends.
- Lead the coordination for the annual interim and year-end financial statement audit for Pension Accounting, including ICFR-led initiatives and control testing activities.
- Oversee the implementation of new accounting policies and procedures over financial reporting.
- Evaluate processes for risk and implement mitigating report-based process, as needed.
- Lead the design and development of various analytical Business Intelligence reporting (including visualization) in support of operational effectiveness and management decision making.
- Support team leadership in selection and reporting of key performance indicators (KPI).
- Lead the team to transform manual reconciliations into automated, BI tool-based reconciliations for more accurate, complete, timely, and consistent analytical use.
- Identify data quality threats, recommend solutions and lead remediation efforts in order to ensure integrity in critical data elements for consumption.
- Lead the team in supporting more strengthened data governance mindset and practice.
- Become a central liaison with other data specialist teams to ensure Pension Accounting's perspectives are represented and prioritized in the greater data-driven prioritization and/or data governance initiatives.
- Provide training and education to team members on importance of safeguarding data as an asset as well as developing an analytical mindset.
- 8+ years in progressive roles in areas of financial / data analysis and operations combined with 2+ years of experience leading and coaching a team.
- Strong analytical skills and intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel, SQL and business intelligence tools PowerBI, Qlikview, Tableau, etc.).
- In-depth understanding and/or experience in key accounting and financial reporting concepts.
- Good understanding of internal control frameworks or exposure to identifying and implementing controls for a high-volume operations function.
- Experience with process improvement project management, business transformation training and education, workforce upskilling, and related change management.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) to facilitate collaboration with external and internal stakeholders.
- Strong ability in using simplified language in explaining technical concepts.
- Self-starter, excellent critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities, capable of interpedently making sound judgment.
- Familiarity with agile methodologies, macro system implementation and SDLC process and/or micro automation projects as an asset.
- Experience in the pension and/or financial services industry as an asset.
- University degree in Finance or Business and a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation
- Master of Management Analytics or equivalent is an asset.
- Microsoft certified Data Analyst / BI Data Analyst or equivalent is an asset.

Job Summary:
Reporting to the Director, Pension Accounting, the Sr. Manager, Pension Accounting Reporting and Analytics will lead a team and oversees the financial reporting, business intelligence and analytics function supporting Pension Accounting. The Sr. Manager will oversee the team in month-end and quarter-end activities aimed at ensuring timely, accurate and complete recording of underlying pension transactions involving payments. Also, the Sr. Manager will maintain and develop business intelligence analytics reports to support the operational function and cover any process gaps. The Sr. Manager will support operational compliance by developing risk-based management dashboard reporting and coordinate audit requests. Lastly, the Sr. Manager will assist the Director with the team's strategic transformation to provide observations and analysis that influence resource allocation, process design, risk mitigation and team member engagement.
