    The opportunity

    Leading a team within Meter Data Management, this role is responsible for ensuring the efficient, timely and accurate production of metering data for settlement of the electricity market under the IESO market rules and established service level agreements. The position is responsible for providing direction over daily work activities to personnel involved in the interpretation, administration, or application of settlement and meter data management services to customers. Responsibilities include:

    • Leading the preparation of metering data for settlement through a validation, estimation and editing process in accordance with IESO Market Rules, standards and procedures;
    • Reviewing the effectiveness of existing meter data management and settlement processes, systems & procedures and leading the development and implementation of effectiveness and efficiency improvements;
    • Producing business process and system documentation for meter data management and settlement activities;
    • Responding to settlement issues, notices of disagreements and notices of disputes as they relate to meter data management; and
    • An expert resource, liaising with internal and external stakeholders for resolution of meter data management and settlement issues.

    What you'll do

    • Responsible for the work associated with assigned staff through planning, organizing, assigning, managing detailed tasks, providing advice direction and training and ensuring quality, accuracy and timeliness. Refer personnel issues which have a significant impact to the Senior Manager.
    • Proved technical leadership to personnel involved in and/or participating in the interpretation, administration, or application of meter data management services to customers. Maintain an expert knowledge of meter data management activities including meter data collection systems, validation, estimating and editing processes used in settling the IESO administered market and provide guidance to stakeholders on matters related to the meter data management function.
    • Ensuring that effective work methods and mechanisms to prevent and detect errors are developed and implemented, resolving routine staff concerns and escalating more contentious issues with accompanying recommendations for resolution to the Senior Manager.
    • Review the effectiveness of existing meter data management processes and lead the development and implementation of effectiveness and efficiency improvements, including the development of appropriate processes and procedures to perform settlements and meter data management activities.
    • Participate in various phases of meter data management queries and ensure the resolution of customer inquiries or complaints, including support for resolution of settlement issues, notices of disagreements and notices of disputes as they relate to meter data management.
    • Manage relationships with assigned team members, colleagues, and other stakeholders to ensure services and results are delivered on time, issues are resolved and information is shared.
    • Represent the IESO on both internal and external committees as required.
    • Lead or participate in projects as required.
    • Perform other duties as required.

    What you need to succeed

    Education:

    • Requires knowledge of electrical theory, power systems analysis, business process development, business risk and control assessment, mathematics and computer sciences to carry out technical and analytical studies related to meter data management and associated activities.
    • Requires excellent written and oral communication skills in order to prepare and present reports, to develop documentation and to communicate effectively with all contacts involved in accomplishing work objectives.
    • This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired either through the successful completion of 4 years university education, or by having the equivalent.

    Experience:

    • The role would require the following:
      • Significant exposure to the wholesale electricity market including metering and meter data management, settlement system practices, procedures, and relevant market rules.
      • Considerable exposure to system and market operation practices and procedures, including legislation, resource utilization, and system control techniques.
      • Experience in analytical studies and the application of computer techniques to provide data and analyzed information pertaining to settlements and meter data.
      • Computer experience including exposure to database software, desktop software applications, various PC-based query and calculation tools and computer system interfaces.
      • Experience in researching the practices and procedures of other jurisdictions, utilizing theoretical assumptions and considering the merits of various alternatives.
      • Experience in supervising, training and providing advice to individuals, including excellent customer service skills.
    • A period of 8 years, up to and including 10 years is considered necessary to gain the above mentioned experience.
