Description

Under the direction of the Manager Finance and Administration, the Fare Collection System Analyst is responsible for leading and coordinating activities related to the implementation of changes, testing of all system updates and enhancements to the Fare Collection System.

In addition, the Fare Collection System Analyst will work on operational and functional issues of small to moderate scope with varying complexity where the analysis of the situation, business process, or data requires thorough review and detailed investigation.

The incumbent will need to exercise solid judgment with consideration of existing system configuration, business processes and detailed policies and procedures to determine appropriate courses of action and solutions to the issues as they arise.

The Fare Collection System Analyst will provide timely frontline expertise and system support as well as user training to advise and assist users with problems in a complex and public facing environment.


In addition to having functional expertise in the Fare Collection System, the System Analyst must work independently, coordinating and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders and external contacts, in a fast paced, dynamic and results-oriented setting, and is accountable for contributing to the successful sustainment, improvement and enhancement of the Fare Collection System.


As the _Fare Collection System Analyst,_
you will**:

  • Work directly with Transit Business Owners, Transit IT, and External Contractors, to lead, coordinate and perform activities related to the implementation and testing of changes, updates and enhancements to the Fare Collection System and related processes to ensure successful operation of this public facing software.
  • Analyze and report on data in fare collection system.
  • Provide timely frontline expertise and system support as well as user training to advise and assist users with problems in a complex and public facing environment.

Your education and qualifications include:


  • Bachelor's degree in Public or Business Administration, Social Sciences or Computer Science, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three (3) years progressive experience in a software, equipment, or process support environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex system issues, make sound decisions and to develop and implement practical solutions and tools.
  • Ability to work under stressful conditions.
  • Demonstrated ability to define and prioritize projects and other priorities, and to coordinate multiple projects, assignments and support activities simultaneously.
  • Ability to work in a thorough, detailoriented manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, render sound judgement, initiate tasks and set goals based on departmental priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide variety of people including senior managers and frontline workers, and function effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to provide leadership and direction to others.
  • Effective verbal communication skills, including the ability to promote knowledge sharing through the preparation and presenting of proposals and training sessions.
  • Effective written communication skills, including the ability to create high level documents, detailed documents, specifications, and training materials.
  • Detailed general knowledge of the City's organization, business operations and management practices with extensive knowledge of Transit operations would be an asset.
