This position is an 18-month term position.

Reporting to the Manager, Site Accounting, Rocanville/Lanigan, the Sr. Accountant completes accounting tasks and prepares reports to ensure Nutrien's accounting related information is kept current, readily accessible, and accurately reported.

The Sr. Accountant is part of a team responsible for the efficient day to day operations of the Accounting Department with major emphasis on: capital accounting, completion of month end procedures including preparation of journal entries, review of the general and subsidiary ledgers, and analyzing financials and communicating the results with management and various stakeholders.

What you will do:

• All aspects of capital project accounting. This includes preparing monthly reports, presentations, communicating with other departments and management to obtain information on the status of capital projects and associated cash flows, and maintaining project cost records
• Maintenance of the fixed asset ledger including depreciation, asset additions, disposals, and verifications
• Responsible for performing month end duties including cost and classification review of the general ledger, performing cut-off, and preparing journal entries
• Duties related to the payment of Potash Royalties including calculating, reporting and statement preparation
• Responsible for performing internal controls and responding to requests from internal and external auditors
• Act as a liaison with other departments to assist with financial analysis and communications on accounting policies and procedures
• Review the general and subsidiary ledgers, on a monthly basis, to ensure accounting procedures are followed, making adjusting entries when needed
• Support and assist with continuous improvement initiatives and projects

What you will bring:

• A Bachelor's degree in Accounting from a recognized institution
• A CPA designation
• 3+ years of accounting experience preferred
• Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and data base tools such as Power Query
• Oracle experience is considered an asset
• Demonstrated positive safety behaviour and safety leadership
• Ability to perform effectively in a changing environment
• Demonstrated time management skills, and ability to prioritize when involved with multiple initiatives and changing priorities
• Ability to work safely and effectively in a team environment as well as independently
• Experience with IFRS and GAAP, possessing a strong working knowledge and application of the concepts
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Commitment to deadlines and attention to detail
