    Job Description

    Publicis Health Montreal is looking for a Senior Director, Medical Strategy with both US and Canadian Health expertise.

    The Senior Director, Medical Strategy assumes responsibility for understanding the scientific and clinical aspects of their assigned brands in depth with even more independence and responsibility than the senior medical director level. They serve as a key medical strategy resource for both internal teams and clients leveraging their scientific knowledge in brand differentiation and communications, collaborating with cross-functional teams to represent the medical perspective throughout strategic/creative development, and ensuring scientific/medical accuracy and relevance. At this level, there is very little reliance on senior medical guidance.

    The Senior Director, Medical Strategy will need to demonstrate well-developed client relationships and the ability to use their medical expertise to strongly support and enhance the strategic focus of their brands. They support/participate in new business pitches as needed and seek opportunities to continually develop their strategic skill set.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    Knowledge/Expertise

  • Develop depth of understanding for assigned products, related medical areas, and competitors on an ongoing basis
  • Expertise in the Canadian pharmaceutical and healthcare space; PAAB
  • Strong understanding of FDA, Veeva, PAAB guidelines, IMC Code of Conduct, Food and Drug
  • Critically review content developed by others in the agency, including copywriters, art directors, brand strategists, and account lead
  • Demonstrate acute attention to detail, with an emphasis on consistency and continuity.
  • Demonstrate versatility in application of disease state, clinical knowledge, and strategic skill set to all brands and impart that knowledge to team leads
  • Strategic Skills/Tools
  • Demonstrate understanding of the strategic imperatives for all brands
  • Combine in-depth scientific understanding of the product and disease state with market awareness to provide high-level communication planning for clients
  • Elevate, expand, and refine strategic offerings of the medical strategy department
  • Interact with and, if necessary, lead discussions with internal teams, clients, and HCPs to help meet strategic objectives of the brand
  • Proactively identifies medical opportunities that contribute to strategic and tactical development

    • Client Relationships

  • Own and manage the day-to-day client strategy and relationships for multiple accounts
  • Onboard new team members, including clients new to brand team, as needed

    • Business Development

  • Lead medical research and development efforts for new business pitches
  • Develop medical insights and help craft the immersion section of a pitch presentation in collaboration with account and strategic planning partners
  • Serve as part of the core pitch team, both internally and during live presentations
  • Guide your direct reports as they learn the pitch process

    • Communication Skills

  • Clearly communicate medical concepts across multiple pieces of business in a condensed, audience-appropriate way to clients, KOLs, and internal cross-functional teams
  • Project confidence as an expert in your assigned brands/therapeutic categories
  • Communicate resourcing, support, and career growth needs to your manager

    • Teamwork/Collaboration

  • Build constructive, open, and cooperative relationships with colleagues
  • Work collaboratively with members of cross-functional teams to help develop and review strategic deliverables
  • Adhere to the roles and responsibilities of each cross-functional team member (e.g., strategic planning, digital, creative) to ensure efficient workflow management
  • Actively participate in and contribute to team discussions and planning sessions
  • Efficiently manage assigned workflows to ensure team deadlines are met
  • Demonstrate willingness to work beyond basic responsibilities to assist your teams

    • Management and Leadership

  • Direct the work of any junior team members working on the same brands. Continue to transition from not just being a great individual performer, but also helping lead junior members to get the best work performance from them
  • Instill confidence and build morale by demonstrating true leadership skills above and beyond brand deliverables
  • Work closely with your manager to ensure appropriate staffing and resources

    • Qualifications

  • University or Master's degree preferably in Science
  • MS, MD, PhD, PharmD Clinical / Scientific
  • Competency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat
  • Strong understanding of PAAB guidelines, FDA, Veeva, IMC Code of Conduct
  • Experienced across a breadth of medical communications strategic and tactical deliverables
  • Innovative strategic and tactical thinking
  • Excellent communication, presentation, client facing and workshop moderation skills
  • Ability to be versatile, hands-on, highly collaborative and flexible in solving a wider variety of client problems and ensuring the success of our medical affairs and communications client engagements
  • Knowledge, curiosity, and passion about innovation in healthcare communications are a must
  • Comfort with and enthusiasm for integrating AI into your work

    • NOTE: This role is onsite in the Montreal office 2-3 times/week
