    POSITION PURPOSE
    This is a new and exciting role to both Corporate and beyond; we are looking for high-energy and passionate people who can influence those around them, who are strong problem solvers, and who have with a passion to challenge the status quo to find new and innovative solutions.

    An Analytics Translator bridges the gap between business goals and advanced analytics possibilities; bringing their curiosity, storytelling and domain knowledge to articulate the why and the so what of the products we build. We connect technical and business expertise in the development and delivery of scalable, sustainable digital solutions that unlock the value that lies within our data and our people.

    Combining deep business knowledge and a strong understanding of what can be achieved with Advanced Analytics, Analytics Translators play a crucial role in ensuring that the Digital products we build are adoptable, scalable and deliver value. The Translator will ensure that strategic business priorities directly shape and define analytical use cases, and that the implications of complex algorithms can be explained clearly to a non-technical audience and that the value is defined and understood. The successful candidate will work with stakeholders from across the Business, IT and Digital to develop successful, well understood data-driven products and services.

    This role is key to the future of the company as we develop a truly Data Driven Culture and seek to embed our Digital Transformation.

    SCOPE

    • Number of Countries: Global

    • Analytics Translators work across all three big Digital rocks – Advanced Analytics, Asset Digitisation and Customer Solutions

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    Work with stakeholders & SMEs to define, refine and prioritise opportunities:

    • Work in tandem with Product leads to shape the end-to-end product strategy and determine business value, staying in sync on priorities and day-to-day decision making

    • Drawing on an array of domain knowledge to drive diagnostic discussions throughout the initiative lifecycle with key stakeholders and SMEs to identify and understand opportunities where advanced analytics can solve key business problems.

    • Generate a series of thoughtful, action-oriented questions that centre the problem to be addressed, who is affected and why it needs to be solved.

    Driving a common purpose and understanding by communicating complex ideas in simple, tailored ways:

    • Working with all key contributors to build and deepen a common understanding throughout the solution development journey.

    • Bringing together the different voices, values, needs and constraints to align expectations, leverage that collective expertise and share knowledge to ensure that our products and technology serve our business aims and unlock the targeted value.

    Define, refine, and document the data and analytical requirements to inform the development of scalable, sustainable solutions:

    • Using a variety of techniques, including interviews, surveys, workshops, and observation, to effectively document and translate business needs into data and analytical requirements that will inform product roadmaps and the modelling & tooling decisions.

    • Working with all contributors throughout the product development journey to ensure that the requirements are specific, executable, are understood by all parties and can be refined and evolved throughout the development process.

    • Develop a deep understanding of the technical solutions being developed to ensure that there is a shared sense of understanding across the development that drives collaboration and a focus on value delivery.

    Translate insights into understandable, actionable recommendations:

    • Ensure that the insights and recommendations from complex analytics can be interpreted and executed upon to, tailoring guidance and communication to the needs of each audience in ways that enable data driven decision making, drive solution adoption and deliver the planned value.

    • Synthesize complex analytics-derived insights into easy to understand, actionable recommendations that business users can easily extract and execute on.

    Role model and build translation capability across Corporate:

    • Demonstrate how the skills and work of translation are key to collaboratively building successful, data-driven products with people centred benefits.

    MEASURES

    • Impact metrics (measuring the value that has been provided under different functional/regional objectives)

    • Scalability (measuring the spread of the solutions across the number of users / functions / geographies)

    • Agility (measuring the speed to and MVP and evaluating the iterative approach taken)

    KEY CONTACTS

    Internal:

    • Business stakeholders and SMEs from across all functions

    • Cross-functional Digital teams and stakeholders, including Product Leads, Delivery Leads, Change Leads, Data Analysts, Data Scientists, UX, Architects, Developers and Engineers.

    • Key Digital functions, including PMO, Data Governance and Communications

    • Digital Leadership team

    • Global IT Partners

    External:

    • Data Analytics Vendors and Partners

    • Customers involved on Data Analytics co-creation experiments

    QUALIFICAITONS

    • BA or BS Preferred or industry experience

    Desired:

    • MBA or other advanced degree preferred

    • Technical degrees in computer science, software engineering, or mathematics as an advantage

    EXPERIENCE

    • Demonstrated ability to facilitate and lead others, and to work with minimal direction, with the proven ability to coordinate complex activities

    • Track record of communicating complex technical ideas in a clear and precise manner

    • Prior experience in presenting technical solutions in simple and clear manner to non-technical stakeholders and senior management

    • Experience implementing a solution and executing on insights by driving adoption among business users

    • Prior experience in data science, software development and/or business translator roles is an advantage

    • Working knowledge of project management & development practices such as Agile, Scrum or Design thinking

    Storytelling - Build compelling data-driven narratives that communicate complex ideas in simple, tailored ways to inform, influence and illuminate the art of the possible. Employing effective storytelling through visual, written and interpersonal means to clearly convey the relevant context and details that allow the value, meaning and journey of each initiative to be understood by all involved.

    Curiosity - Demonstrating creativity and innovation through research and timely, appropriate questions that will illuminate needs, build rapport and drive continuous improvement. Seek out the possibilities of a given context to fully understand and communicate the problems and opportunities we face.

    Empathy - Genuinely seeking to understand and respect a wide range of perspectives; using active listening to identify relevant, people-centred problems and understanding the needs and pains of our customers to deliver solutions that are rooted in meeting them.

    Data Journalism - Data savvy storytelling that provides an accessible narrative of each product journey, capturing key elements, decisions and trade-offs and their impact, providing perspective, insight and bridging the gap between the outputs of analytics and the audiences who will rely on it to drive decisions. Encompassing tools, techniques and approaches to data analysis and storytelling to bring sense, structure and transparency to the product build process and presentation/sharing of key, relevant insights.

    Agile Methodologies - Have an agile mindset and commitment to adopting methodologies; embracing and role modelling opportunities to work collaboratively, flexibly and adaptively to deliver customer value. Understanding, collaborating, learning and staying flexible to achieve high performing results Combining an agile mindset with tools and methodologies to drive change and deliver increment value.

    Business Acumen - Possess business literacy and business acumen to enable the selection and framing of feasible, valuable business problems, and to effectively articulate risks and opportunities in the development journey.

    Key Translation Knowledge:

    Data Technology / Software development - Understands elements of data management, especially the importance of data quality and security, can demonstrate the ability to manage interdependencies to maximize productivity across the team

    Analytical & Modelling methods - Understands wide range of algorithm groups across descriptive, predictive, prescriptive analytics to ensure that the solution uses the most efficient and interpretable methods for business users.

    Organizational Awareness - Understands our organizational setup, how to effectively get things done across our business and can demonstrate an awareness and understanding of key areas of data and digital transformation technologies of relevance to Corporate ambitions.

    Teamworking - Believes in a non-hierarchical culture of collaboration, transparency, safety, and trust and understands the opportunities and challenges of a cross-functional team. Understands the need for trust-based relationships to create a collaborative working environment and to maximize cross-functional synergies.
