    As a SHES Specialist you will actively drive, and provide expertise to, the execution of continuous improvements in occupational health, safety, environmental & sustainable and security matters. You will be the SHES Specialist to the Terra Insights brands across Canada, with specific focus on the manufacturing facilities in BC and New Brunswick, developing a standard program that aims for COR certification in 2025.

    This role reports to the Director, HR, with a dotted line to our parent company (Orica) SHES leadership who helps set the standards and metrics of local programs.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Co-Chair the Terra Insights Joint Health & Safety Committee ensuring compliance with local legislations across the brands in Canada through developing programs, policies, tools, and supporting the local committees in driving compliance, education, and services on site
    • Conduct tests and inspect working areas, machinery, equipment and working conditions for compliance with occupational safety and health regulations
    • Ensure the availability, readiness and proper use of required accident prevention procedures, safety and fire prevention equipment, protective clothing and devices, and first aid supplies
    • Recommends and follows up to verify the implementation of corrective actions; maintains records on safety inspections, and inventory of safety and fire equipment and devices
    • Provide advice in response to SHES queries on policy and process Participate in continuous improvement processes and problem-solving activities, ensuring accuracy of information and delivery in agreed timeframe
    • Facilitate annual plant, sprinkler and fire department inspections, Air Quality testing, and track written action items resulting from these findings
    • Facilitate environmental actions per written procedure and improve environmental process as necessary
    • Contribute to the development and implementation of SHES management systems; participating and supporting SHES assurance activities
    • Support leadership to execute their SHES responsibilities and accountabilities; assisting in event investigation and supporting the development of a SHES risk profile
    • Implementing initiatives to mitigate and prevent SHES risk

    Education

    • 4+ years of relevant practical experience of working with SHES, preferably in Production & Manufacturing
    • Bachelor's degree in Safety, Health & Environment or related discipline – preferred
    • Or must possess a Safety Certificate – Certified safety professional, Assoc Safety Professional or Certified Safety Manager
    • Advanced courses/certificates in Environmental Management, Industrial Hygiene, Safety or Security are also a benefit; a combination of education and experience will be considered

    Salary Range: $72,000 to $90,000

    Work Hours

    8 hour days with a flexible start time between 7AM – 8:30AM

    Travel

    Travel 5% of time throughout assigned region
