    Description

    Purpose:

    Reporting to the Executive Officer this role will have a leadership role in strategic planning and a connection to institutional goals regarding health & safety, facilities, space planning, security and technical services for the Lassonde School of buildings which house the Lassonde School of Engineering (Bergeron Centre, Lassonde and Petrie) serve many diverse teaching and complex research needs, some of which impose unique and specific demands on building infrastructure, health and safety and security.

    With the Faculty's growth in research activity and the demands for fiscally responsibility, the Director has direct oversight and is responsible for business development, asset management and revenue generation of technical services.

    Education:

    University degree in occupational and public health, planning, construction management, facilities management or equivalent. Formal certification in Health and Safety is required and the CFM (Certified Facility Manager) is desirable. Graduate Degree in Business Administration or Engineering would be an asset.

    Experience:

    Seven to ten years' experience in a senior management role within a large university or other related, large and complex organization along with 5 years' experience in facilities management, building design and operational practices.

    Requires specialist knowledge in health and safety issues, emergency response and compliance. Leadership, strategic or business planning and policy development.

    Skills:

    Excellent oral and written communication skills to communicate effectively with all health, safety and compliance stakeholders including academic units, VP's Offices, external agencies, faculty, staff and students.

    Excellent interpersonal skills, including flexibility, discretion, diplomacy, tact, judgment. Ability to work independently and collegially. Effective leadership and supervisory skills. Proven planning, coordination and organizational skills. Ability to respond and adapt to a changing, high pressure environment.

    Demonstrated ability to initiate, implement, coordinate and monitor a wide variety of complex and sensitive projects, both short-term and long-term.

    Ability to assess problem situations, recognize issues and use good judgment to devise creative solutions. Ability to provide a consistently high level of service to address issues within the Faculty. Sound knowledge and commitment to healthy and safe work practices. Knowledge of the OHSA, WHMIS and Industrial Regulations, due diligence and duties of supervisors. Familiarity with science labs. Proficiency in Microsoft Office including intermediate word processing, spreadsheet and database skills.
