Job Number:49354**Reporting to the Safe Disclosure Office Lead, the Safe Disclosure Officer is an integral member of the Employee and Legal Services Division. This individual will provide support to employees and volunteers who bring forward complaints, concerns and questions related to the City's Respectful Workplace Policy.

Your success will be measured by your ability to achieve results in a respectful, inclusive and service-minded way.

With a focus on the City of Edmonton's Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:

  • Conduct the intake of, and assess concerns, to provide employees support, advice and referral to the appropriate resources and processes
  • Follow information security and records management practices in order to ensure confidentiality and protection of privacy
  • Ensure the compliance and alignment of the Safe Disclosure Office with the Alberta Human Rights Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act
  • Provide consultation to employees regarding harassment, discrimination and respectful workplace concerns
  • Increase the awareness of the Safe Disclosure Office across the City of Edmonton
  • Other related duties as required

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Arts, Human Resources, Labour/Industrial Relations, Human Services, Law, or other related discipline. (An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered)
  • 5 years of progressively responsible experience as a specialist in Mediation, alternative conflict resolution, employee counselling, and human rights within a complex and diverse organization
  • Experience working within a Unionized environment would be an asset
  • Formal training in mediation, alternative conflict resolution, workplace investigations, human rights or interest based problem solving would be an asset
  • Experience managing complex, multidimensional relationships
  • Experience and demonstrated ability to follow processes and procedures
  • Knowledge of current trends and/or case law in Human Rights, Discrimination and Harassment, alternative dispute resolution and diversity and inclusion
  • Ability to manage highly emotional conversations in an empathetic and objective manner
  • Ability to build, nurture and develop collaborative relationships and partnerships with relevant stakeholders
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and presentation skills
  • Personal leadership in diversity and inclusion by actively demonstrating the values and behaviours supportive of diversity and inclusion in the workplace
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to develop positive, strong relationships and work in a collaborative, integrated team environment.
  • Ability to achieve results in a respectful and inclusive style
  • Excellent problem solving, negotiation and conflict management/resolution skills
  • A Police Information Check, including Vulnerable Sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
  • Demonstrate service excellence, embracing diversity and promoting inclusiveness.
