    The Department of Clinical Neurosciences in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for 2 Research Coordinator(s). This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

    This position reports to the Clinical Research Manager and will have accountabilities from other senior team members.

    As part of the Calgary Stroke Program, the Research Coordinator will perform highly complex functions successfully as a fully functioning member of the research team. A high level of concentration, resourcefulness, and creativity is required. The Research Coordinator will need to demonstrate strong communication, independence, team and client service skills.

    The work week will be flexible according to patient recruitment and studies; day-time hours are expected because patient appointment occur primarily during this time. On-call responsibilities, including evenings and weekends, are an expected part of the job.

    Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

    • Maintain established programs
    • Establish new procedures and programs as needed to reach the project objective
    • Ability to demonstrate assigned and scheduled tasks are done on own initiative and that results are beneficial to the success of the department
    • Ability to demonstrate and explain how work is performed to individuals in other positions performing similar work
    • Maintain established procedures and programs including but not limited to the assurance of a hazard free working environment
    • Good relationships are established and maintained with all unit members, including part time members who may report to this position
    • Data entry in order to maintain existing databases and for the development of new databases
    • Must maintain the ethical and confidentiality standards set by external institutions (in regards to such legislation as FOIP) as well as those internally set by the University
    • Must maintain current safety regulations set out by internal or external institutions
    • Records research data on paper and in an electronic database
    • Coordination and attendance of meetings with research sites outside the University of Calgary to provide information on research protocols and for feedback on quality
    • Data entry of results into existing database structures
    • Support in the management of standard operating procedures for trial processes. This includes: development of a SOP, uploading onto a server, review and signoff by all relevant employees and then enacting the SOP as the new standard
    • Participation and communication during regular group meetings
    • Report findings to the project leads of various research studies
    • Manage communications (written, web, email, multimedia) about the projects both internally and externally
    • Manage project meetings including keeping brief records of the meeting proceedings (minutes)
    • Co-manage site investigator meetings and study-wide central investigator meetings including co-ordination of meeting processes and events

    Qualifications / Requirements:

    • Bachelors degree minimum.
    • Research Experience required
    • Certification in GCP-ICH, TCPS-2 (ethics) required.
    • Certification in an accredited research course an asset, but not required
    • 1-3 years of related experience
    • Health Care/nursing provider qualification an asset, but not required
    • Strong analytical, planning and evaluation skills
    • Research data validation/integrity experience/knowledge
    • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
    • Precise documentation skills
    • Self-directed, enthusiastic and honest in the performance of duties
    • Ability to time manage and determine priorities
    • Knowledge of the Conjoint Research and Ethics Board (annual updates, reporting of adverse events) an asset
    • Proficiency in computer skills (email, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power-point, Outlook, web-based data management software)
    • Statistical knowledge an asset, but not required
    • Knowledge of University of Calgary policies and clinical health research systems (i.e., SSS, IRIS) an asset
