Project Engineering Manager (PEM) to join Bechtel's Mining & Metals team in Quebec. With a strong program of projects, now is truly the right time to join this innovative multi-disciplinary team and play a key role in driving success by providing valued design modelling expertise.

The PEM supervises the engineering activities across all disciplines on projects, drawing on their broad and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices to engineering management of complex engineering solutions. Representing and leading the engineering team on the project and with the client to resolve technical issues and coordinate work.

Position Summary

• Plans, develops, coordinates and reviews complex engineering work within a multi-discipline project de-livery on a brownfield site as part of a Global Business unit (GBU)
• Coordinates and manages the day-to-day technical work of discipline lead engineers and their teams including engineers, technical specialists, designers and drafters reporting to these leads.
• Manages technical discussions with third parties (client, key vendors and suppliers) to facilitate appropriate technical solutions and decisions.
• Prepares or oversees preparation of discipline estimates and work plans in accordance with the project scope, schedule and budgets, and then manages implementation and performance accordingly.
• Manages, guides, coaches and encourages the engineering team, including regular check ins, annual performance reviews and performance discussions with direct reports.
• Develops project Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs) for the assigned project, provides input to or develops Bechtel design guides, appropriate Bechtel Standard Application Program (BSAPs) and administrative practices.
• Coordinates with the client representatives to obtain approval on phases of work.
• Interfaces with Supply Chain team, Project Controls, Construction & Startup and Project Management teams within the project.
• Champions management of change associated with Engineering, to identify, define and seek approval to changes or emerging issues to the project scope.
• Reviews significant bid summaries, major drawings and staffing estimates and schedules.
• Reviews and approves key engineering drawings and calculations, including field and design documents relating to the project and within the project scope.
• Coordinates assigned engineering work with other project groups.
• Mentors engineers, designers and drafters by providing appropriate on-the-job training for their professional development.

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications

• Mineral processing experience will be highly regarded
• Large engineering project management across multiple global locations
• Complex multi-discipline package management
• Knowledge of -
• systems, calculations, equipment, applications of methods, plant layout, materials, and computers for preparation of complex analyses and development of complex project deliverables within the different disciplines and their interactions, precedents and inter-dependencies.
• engineering work planning, progress reporting (earned value) and control methods.
• related construction practices and the economics involved, including modularisation and pre-assembly delivery approaches and the implications to engineering's schedule and individual disciplines
• international/industry/regulatory codes and standards, and of design and/or layout criteria.
• Thorough knowledge of procedure based engineering processes and practices, and/or Bechtel's Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), Bechtel design guides, appropriate Bechtel Standard Application Program (BSAPs) and administrative practices.

Additional Qualifications

• A recognized degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, from an accredited college or university, OR Specialized courses in relevant general engineering, design or science or an appropriate engineering discipline, AND
• A professional license in an appropriate engineering or scientific discipline, from a recognized licensing board, OR Broad progressive work experience in design engineering, science or other relevant types of engineering such as construction field support, systems start-up and commissioning, field engineering or plant operation in large industrial plants, utilities, process plants, or EPC/EPCM companies
