    Work setting: Hybrid with 2-3 days required in office per week at the Waterloo location.

    Providing CPA and prospective CPA students with a way to transform their potential into successful long-term careers, the co-op student will gain practical experience through our CPA pre-approved program and mentorship from our in-house CPA mentors.

    Reporting to one of the Finance Managers and receiving day-to-day coaching and guidance from Senior Financial Analysts, the co-op student is expected to work collaboratively with members within finance as well as other key members across the organization, demonstrating a high level of service, information quality and responsiveness.

    The co-op student is responsible for the preparation of timely, accurate and complete financial information, analysis, and reports to meet the requirements of both internal and external customers. Additionally, the co-op student is responsible for identifying any potential problems or risk areas, as well as opportunities that the business may need to be aware of and act on.

    What you'll be doing:

    • Provide support over the month end close process, including preparing journal entries and general ledger reconciliations.
    • Assisting in the preparation of financial reports to meet the timeliness and quality requirements of both internal and external customers.
    • Assisting the preparation of regulatory reports (OSFI P&C1, Statistics Canada surveys)
    • Creating meaningful ad hoc reports and analysis utilizing the appropriate source data.
    • Appropriately prioritizing work to respond to the needs of customers.
    • Communicating any potential risks or opportunities to finance customers or the Financial Reporting team.

    What you bring:

    • Must be a full-time student in a Co-Op program related to business, finance, or related program
    • Working towards a CPA accounting designation would be preferred.
    • Insurance industry experience would be beneficial but is not required.
    • High level of proficiency with Excel.
    • Knowledge of VBA would be an asset
    • Goal oriented and highly motivated.
    • Strong work ethic and commitment to operational excellence.
    • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills.
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
    • Strong time management and organizational skills. Professional, friendly and courteous in all interactions.
    • Demonstrate a desire to continuously develop knowledge, skill and expertise.

    The hourly compensation for the role starts at $22/h and will increase based on factors including but not limited to, skills, education, experience, and the recommended rates as set by the respective educational institution.
