Duties & Responsibilities:

Engineering Design, Development & Sustainment

  • Analyzes and interprets engineering requirements for the optimal fitting and assembly of new safety garment products;
  • Actively participates in team peer design reviews and document change board reviews;
  • Assists as required in the investigation of design concepts and solutions for new products;
  • Designs and fabricates mockups, prototypes and finished assemblies through the use of prototype and manufacturing equipment; able to design for manufacturability.
  • Collaborates with designers and engineers in other groups on related development projects;
  • Creates engineering documents (assembly, graphic, specifications, inspection instructions), bills of materials, Soft Goods functional specifications, patterns, markers;
  • Crafts and executes engineering change requests and assists with maintenance of existing soft goods product portfolio.
Manufacturing Transition and NPI

  • Interfaces with internal and external manufacturing engineering groups and contractors during advanced prototype builds to transfer technology of new products to production;
  • Transitions new product development to new product introduction through Operations
Testing and Validation

  • Conducts or participates in testing and validation of soft goods products and prototypes with the Design Engineering and Human Factors Engineering teams;
  • Assists in the verification of production work and initiation of changes as required;
Continuous Improvement initiatives and COGS (Cost of Goods Sold) reduction

  • Participates in investigating and implementing product and process cost reduction efforts.
  • Reviews existing product designs and recommends design/documentation enhancements.
  • Reviews existing manufacturing methods and designs with an intent to improve the manufacturability efficiency and reduce labour utilization, as well as overall costs
  • Conducts research into new technologies, suppliers and processes and makes recommendations for product Design for Manufacturability and industry best practices.

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Garment/Textile Design/Engineering or equivalent experience;
  • A minimum of five years' experience in Design/Engineering in Clothing/Garment Industry;
  • 3+ years' experience in Design/Engineering in Personal Protective Systems and Military Equipment preferred;
  • Experience in Soft Goods Manufacturing Engineering and related equipment;
  • Experience working with Garment Design software (Lectra preferred). Solid skills with Microsoft and Adobe software packages a definite plus.
  • Proficiency in soft goods production processes and technology;
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively in spoken and written English, including the ability to describe information, concepts and ideas and to convey instructions to others
  • Ability to independently manage, organize, and complete work activities in order to meet or exceed established deadlines/priorities;
  • Ability to work well independently with minimum direction, as well as in a team environment.
  • Work is performed in a mixed office & prototyping environment;
  • Travel will be required to other facilities, subcontractors or suppliers within Canada and the U.S periodically across the year;
  • Valid Driver's license is required.
