- Creates cost estimates, studies, analyses, and evaluations, at all levels of project development, as part of the internal team.
- Performs quantity take-off in a manner and level of detail consistent with the project goals.
- Prepares the estimate with clear assumptions/exclusions and liaise with design team on regular basis.
- Obtains accurate and up to date pricing information for databases, contractors, suppliers, etc to utilize in estimates.
- Inputs estimate take-off information for specific discipline and develops unit cost pricing.
- Works with designers and engineers to develop clear understanding of project scope preparation of estimate.
- Assists senior staff in ways to make projects more efficient. Seeks ways to improve accuracy and efficiency of tasks.
- Maintains project documents such as drawings and specifications in an organized and reasonable manner.
- Maintains and updates data library of costs.
- Prepares cost reconciliation between two or more estimates and explains variance cost drivers.
- Prepares such other duties as supervisor deems necessary.
- Is familiar with estimating mode of measurements and process for rail and infrastructure.
- Investigates and incorporates project constraints into cost analysis.
- High articulation, clear and analytical approach to problem solving, and strong decision-making abilities.
- Ability to understand and accurately interpret construction documents (drawings, specifications, contracts/general conditions) at all levels of design.
- A good understanding of construction methodology within the infrastructure of railways.
- Great interpersonal skills, an ability to communicate effectively and a willingness and determination to progress career quickly.
- Solid experience working directly with clients.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
- Consistent cost estimating experience with a strong focus on federal government and infrastructure projects.
- Bachelor's degree in construction, quantity surveying or a related field.
- Professional cost estimating certification preferred, not required.
