Description
Canada Research Chair (Tier I) in Evidence-Informed Health Policy Department of Community Health Sciences Cumming School of Medicine We would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the traditional territories of the people of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta. The City of Calgary is also home to Métis Nation of Alberta (Districts 5 and 6). The Department of Community Health Sciences and O'Brien Institute for Public Health (OIPH) , in the Cumming School of Medicine (CSM), University of Calgary (UCalgary), invite applications for an appointment with Tenure at the Professor level. The selected candidate will be nominated for a Canadian Institutes for Health Research (CIHR) Tier I Canada Research Chair (CRC) in Evidence-Informed Health Policy. Further information about the Canada Research Chairs Program can be found on the Government of Canada's CRC website ( including eligibility criteria. This position provides an opportunity for an outstanding researcher to continue to grow an active research program in health policy broadly conceived. Established researchers with strong track records in health policy or an applied focus in health in all policies, including in public health, health services, population health, or another field within health sciences are encouraged to apply. Start-up funds will provide the Chair with resources to successfully leverage and galvanize existing initiatives at the University of Calgary. Qualifications include a PhD, MD/PhD, JD, or equivalent and at least seven years as an independent investigator. Applicants must present evidence of an established, externally funded (at the level of Canadian Tri-Council or equivalent peer-reviewed National/International organization) research program focused on health policy, and a strong publication record that reflects their experience in policy research. Evidence of successful teaching and/or graduate supervision, National/International research collaborations, and experience creating and leading interdisciplinary teams are all required. The applicant's track record must reflect excellence as expected given their current rank. The successful CRC candidate will lead a health policy research program out of the CSM Department of Community Health Sciences and the Centre for Health Policy in the OIPH. Engaging closely with colleagues in the Department and Centre, they will benefit from and contribute to a growing community of health policy scientists at UCalgary. The OIPH's broader mission is to advance public health through research excellence. The recently formed Centre for Health Policy brings together a geographically dispersed and methodologically diverse team of experts focused on developing the policy options necessary to improve health systems and population health. The Centre's approach to applied policy research reflects University-wide strategy , as well as the CSM's commitment to transdisciplinary scholarship. The successful candidate will be collaborating with researchers from across not just the CSM but the UCalgary campus to develop the strong working relationships with colleagues, policymakers and community members that underpin successful policy. Specific partners here are likely to include various CSM institutes and the UCalgary School of Public Policy which has developed specific collaborative and engagement arrangements with the Centre. Connections into and collaborative potential with these and other UCalgary units will be central to the successful candidate's research program and the production of viable evidence-informed policy options that shape health systems and population health across Alberta and Canada.
