The University of the Fraser Valley Student Union Society (SUS) is a BC Not-For-Profit Society representing and serving UFV students.

The Society manages the Student Union Building and facilitates services such as the UFV U-Pass, food services, and the student health and dental plan.

SUS also provides support to an active community by organizing events and providing wellness and developmental programming.

As the official representative body of UFV students, our mission is to be an inclusive community that provides high-quality, accessible programs and services.

Work Schedule: 30 hrs per week (Mon-Fri)


Compensation:
$30+ per hour


Reporting to:
Executive Director

The Finance Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Student Union Society's finances and long-term financial planning.

Regular duties include all accounting functions, producing monthly financial reports, processing payroll, and reconciliations, overseeing audits, and conducting forecast analysis.

This position will be a perfect fit for an organized individual with high attention to detail, and experience analyzing financial data.

The Finance Manager protects company assets and ensures they are effectively and efficiently utilized.

As the full-cycle bookkeeper, you will manage budgets across departments, administers payroll and benefits, conducts credit card reconciliations, and develops budget scenarios and variance reports.

This position requires a self-starter who is experienced in the daily financial matters of a non-profit organization.


DUTIES & REPSONSIBILITIES
The Finance Manager has specific responsibility for a variety of functions, including but not limited to the following outlined below:

  • Leads annual budget creation in consultation with the Executive Director.
  • Ensures that financial plans are in line with strategic goals.
  • Produces variance analysis of organizational and departmental budgets.
  • Reviews and manages credit card transactions, conducting monthly credit card reconciliations.
  • Reconciles daily cash receipts postings for Fairgrounds manages inventory, and prepares bank deposits.
  • Performs payroll duties (ADP) and benefits administration for all staff.
  • Financial oversight of contracts and projects.
  • Supports the Student Refugee Program with Financial oversight and payments
  • Develops and implements accounting policies and procedures to ensure accurate and timely reporting.
  • Prepares and presents monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and proposed budgets to the Executive Director, the Board of Directors, and at the AGM.
  • Works with colleagues across the organization to develop and implement financial processes and procedures that best fit their requirements and the requirements of the Society.
  • Works with Vice President Internal to provide fiscal oversight.
  • Complies with provincial and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
  • Manages and supports a parttime Finance Assistant.
  • Supports onboarding and offboarding through HRIS software to ensure all necessary finance, security, and HR forms are completed.
  • Monitors and reports on leave allowances.
  • Creates and maintains positive relationships with auditors, UFV departments, and other professional organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Education and Work Experience: Post-secondary education, certificate, or diploma in accounting or business and 3+ years of relevant work experience.

Financial Knowledge: Knowledge of finance legislation.

Financial Analysis and Interpretation:Have a proven track record in providing meaningful interpretation and analysis of financial information to inform decision-making.

Confidentiality and Experience Handling Sensitive Information: Be able to create and analyze data and ensure the highest level of professionalism.

Taking Responsibility: Be able to work independently on projects and complete tasks within specified time frames.

Excellent Organization Skills: Be able to manage multiple software, keep records, track financial data, and create concise reports.

Integrity: Be accountable to the student membership, the Board of Directors, and the team to ensure that all financial procedures and safeguards are in place and followed.

Time management skills: Ability to manage several projects simultaneously, prioritizing and working independently.
