    Overview
    Under the supervision of the Program Manager, Steveston Heritage Sites, the Exhibit & Program Coordinator is responsible for the development and delivery of public programs and exhibits at the City's museums and heritage sites in Steveston including Britannia Shipyards, London Farm, Steveston Museum and Steveston Tram. Duties include supervising program staff and volunteers and a Curatorial Assistant, supporting the team of Heritage Interpreters, day-to-day care of physical interpretive elements, and managing interpretive projects, such as guided tours, site activations, exhibits, and digital interpretation. Success in this position requires experience in building and maintaining strong relationships with community stakeholders.

    Examples of key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
    • Leads the development and delivery of public interpretation, including developing support materials, delivery plans and training for tours, demonstrations, and special activations;
    • Cares for current exhibits and supports the development of new displays and exhibits;
    • Leads content creation for physical interpretation on site, such as signage and exhibits;
    • Project manages interpretive projects, including schedule development, procurement, supervision of technical contractors, monitoring project budgets, and coordinating partners;
    • Develops and maintains relationships with community members and cultural groups;
    • Assembles, evaluates and interprets statistics on participation and engagement in interpretive activities;
    • Undertakes historical research related to site interpretation, including archival research and interviews as needed; engages and coordinates community-based researchers to support inclusive story telling at all sites;
    • Provides content to support the marketing and promotion of programs and exhibitions;
    • Participates in the recruitment and evaluation of Heritage Interpreters and public programming volunteers;
    • Maintains records, attends meetings and assists with site operations as they relate to programs and exhibit work; and
    • Liaises with Facilities and Parks departments in the planning and production of physical interpretation.
    • Performs other duties as required.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • Strong understanding of best practices in interpretive content development and interpretive tools used in programs and exhibits;
    • Ability to effectively supervise staff;
    • Understanding of archival research practices;
    • Familiar with the guiding principles for the preservation of built heritage and places and best practices in the care and handling of artefacts;
    • Excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills;
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff members, public, community partners and volunteers;
    • Basic understanding of procurement practices;
    • Ability to write clearly and effectively; and
    • Ability to work with minimal direct supervision.

    Qualifications and Experience:

    • Completion of a 2 year post-secondary program in a related discipline such as museum studies, history or archaeology. A post-secondary degree is preferred.
    • Minimum 2 years, and up to, including 5 years of experience in museum programming, exhibit development including design, fabrication and installation and oral histories or related discipline.
    • Valid Class 5 Driver's License for the Province of British Columbia.
