    Opportunity

    The Department of Nursing Foundations in the Faculty of Nursing, in partnership with kihêw waciston Indigenous Centre, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment in the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing July 1, 2024, subject to final budgetary approval. The incumbent will be cross-appointed to kihêw waciston Indigenous Centre during the initial three years in the position, with the potential for renewal.

    MacEwan is seeking a candidate with lived Indigenous experiences who is grounded in Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing. As MacEwan University's Indigenous Centre, kihêw waciston offers personal, academic, financial, and cultural support for students and is open to everyone in the MacEwan community. The successful candidate will work closely with kihêw waciston Indigenous Centre and have good relationships with Indigenous communities.

    Initially, in addition to teaching a reduced course load in the Department of Nursing Foundations for the duration of the cross-appointment, the successful candidate will provide consultation and participate in developing an Indigenous-focused curriculum to align with institutional priorities and foster community engagement. This will involve collaborating with the Director, Indigenous Initiatives and kihêw waciston to plan and organize faculty educational opportunities and develop culturally sensitive programming, evaluations, and events. After this period, the incumbent will be assigned a standard faculty workload in their home department.

    MacEwan University has a long-standing history of providing quality nursing education that prepares graduates to lead and succeed in nursing practice and beyond. The Faculty of Nursing is organized into 5 departments. Courses delivered within each of these departments are affiliated with the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, the Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing, the Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing, and other continuing education credentials and learning experiences. Faculty members in the Department of Nursing Foundations are experts in their discipline-specific fields and roles, incorporating core knowledge about the scope of practice and standards of nursing.

    The Department of Nursing Foundation offers courses related to the fundamental principles of Nursing, which form a basis upon which strong practice experience and solid understanding are built.     Qualifications

    The successful candidate must have, or be close to completion of, a PhD in Nursing. The successful candidate will demonstrate a primary commitment to undergraduate teaching and an ongoing research program. Demonstrated knowledge of Indigenous communities, including their diverse backgrounds and culture, socio-economic issues, and educational needs, is strongly preferred. All applicants will demonstrate ethical engagement and collaboration with Indigenous communities.

    Applicants should submit a cover letter and curriculum vitae clearly showing a highly developed knowledge and understanding of Indigenous cultures and contemporary issues with a proven ability to engage with Indigenous communities; a teaching dossier (including recent teaching evaluations); a statement of research interests; and a sample of scholarly work. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted by the Department Chair to provide three (3) letters of reference sent directly from referees and copies of official transcripts sent directly from the institutions where they completed their degrees. Shortlisted candidates may also be asked to provide evidence of their ability to collaborate with Indigenous communities through examples of previous collaboration or a letter of support from an Indigenous community.
