Job Description
Currently, we are seeking Superintendents to join our growing team. In this role, you will provide the management and technical direction for the safety, quality, productivity, and construction costs of all projects under your supervision focusing on driving the project experience.
Additional responsibilities include the following:
Leadership – Motivate and inspire team members through positive reinforcement and timely feedback on expectations for safety, quality, productivity and related goals.
Safety – Perform audits to make sure that crews are adhering to company safety policies.
Pre-Job and Post-Job Planning – Actively participate in pre-job planning/strategy sessions to develop strategies with unique characteristics of the schedule and the project budget. Actively participate in post-job review meetings to develop and utilize lessons learned. Help prepare foremen and subcontractors to succeed on every project.
Productivity – Drive project schedules through the effective and proactive use of field best practices (i.e., pre-job planning, short interval planning, daily huddles).
Labour Budget Performance – Continually review project progress, labour budgets, schedules and requirements for completion. Determine and recommend changes in methods, schedules and/or procedures to ensure labour budgets (hours worked) are met or improved.
Timely/accurate field documentation – Ensure proper paper flow and information reporting from the project to the office.
Field/Subcontractor Coordination – Actively participate in pre-work meetings with subcontractors to familiarize all subcontractors with the project schedules, construction methods, company procedures and policies, and quality standards. Review master schedule, develop schedule milestones and measure incremental progress against schedules during weekly subcontractor meetings. Evaluate applicability to shop drawings with project managers. Manage job meetings on a weekly basis or as frequent as project may demand.
Customer Relations and Communications – Maintain positive, continuous communication with customers. Show integrity and dependability. Be committed to meeting the customers' expectations and enhancing the project experience.
Quality – Construct a safe and reliable project that meets or exceeds the customers' expectations the first time, every time. When results are not as expected, takes responsibility and takes charge to improve the results.
Scheduling – Schedule labour, equipment and tools to accomplish the job in a safe manner using tools and equipment efficiently. In cooperation with the project manager, create realistic schedules consistent with the concept of "building the job in your head."
Training – Provide resources to subordinates for opportunities for continuous training.
Proactive Communication – Take the initiative to communicate with people in the company and keep them informed about issues, problems and successes occurring on the job. Develop innovative solutions to job site problems.
Equipment and Vehicle Maintenance – Take care of equipment and vehicles assigned to your projects including job trailer. Assure that equipment and vehicles receive the proper maintenance. Do not allow assets of the company to be misused or abused.
Desired Skills & Experience:
Qualified candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of relevant construction industry experience, including Safety compliance and demonstrated supervisory success. Skills include: written and verbal communications acumen, trade coordination, material take off, layout, ability to lead project meetings, shop drawings/blueprints/sketching, site work, scheduling, effective project documentation (daily field reports, pictures, etc.), computer skills (MS Project, Excel, etc.). Candidates must demonstrate professionalism, be results-driven, and possess business acumen.
