Our Environmental division provides inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry, general chemistry, microbiology, and pesticide analysis using state of the art technology and methodology.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Performs microbiology testing in a timely fashion maintaining a high level of quality.
  • Participates in analytical work in other areas.
  • Reports results for microbiological tests.
  • Successfully participates in completion of proficiency testing samples.
  • Maintain/troubleshoot analytical systems.
  • Aseptically performs sampling, plating, and testing of samples daily to meet turnaround time.
  • Data input into laboratory information management system (LIMS).
  • Submits accurate and timely reports based on the analysis.
  • Laboratory management of daily workload including medium preparation, sample setup, result reading, data input, report release to satisfy requirements of clients.
  • Identifies and communicates results that require further investigation or discussion with the Team Lead.
  • Assists in maintaining quality system records to comply with all accrediting agencies.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly environment.

Qualifications:


  • B.Sc. in a related field with practical experience in a microbiology lab setting, preferably in Microbiology, Biology, Food Science or related sciences
  • 13 years Laboratory experience is preferred, including coop experience
  • Knowledge of established laboratory procedures/standards/techniques.
  • Experience in analyzing food for the presence of foodborne pathogens.
  • Knowledge of the scientific principles/practices applicable to test protocols/procedures/methods and analytical systems/equipment (i.e., membrane filtration, identification of organisms, spread plate analysis, MPN, PCR etc.).
  • Knowledge of the methods for isolation, identification and enumeration of foodborne and environmental bacterial pathogens.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to meet quick turnaround times and deadlines
  • Practical experience in aseptic laboratory techniques and media preparation.
  • Experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and Windowsbased software (e.g. word processing, spreadsheet).
  • Proven ability to perform basic microbiology laboratory techniques.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
