Rate of Pay:
$23.98 per hour (benefits after successful completion of probation period)
The Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria (ICA) helps immigrants and refugees meet their
social, cultural and economic goals. Comprised of dedicated staff and volunteers, ICA provides
language instruction, support finding housing and employment and a range of other services. In
addition, ICA is actively engaged in the community to strengthen connections between immigrants
and those born in Canada. Through our work, we are building a strong, diverse and vibrant

positive impact in the Greater Victoria region for more than 50 years.
Job description
Under the guidelines of multiple programs through the Ministry of Social Development and Poverty
Reduction (WorkBC/MCES), Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC); Ministry of
Municipal Affairs, other funding agencies, this position provides job search and placement support
as well as job sustainment services to assist immigrant and refugee newcomers who require
intensive one-to-one services to connect with the labour market in Victoria. Assists clients in
obtaining and retaining employment in the community. Develops connections with the employer
community and stays current on local labour market information. Works with clients from various
ICA employment programs to develop networking and self-marketing skills. Serves all individuals,
including BIPOC, LGBTQ2+ and Indigenous, and those with diverse abilities. Reports to the
Employment Services Manager.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree and professional courses on employmentrelated themes or
development, intercultural studies).
- Keen understanding of diversity issues to work with persons from diverse backgrounds on
- Ability to achieve results with individuals with specialized needs and multibarriers to
- Three years' experience in a job development, job coaching or placement environment,
assessments, conducting outreach within social services, not-for-profit and/or multicultural
organization.
- Established relationships with local employers and the community.
- Strong administrative skills, including writing case notes and data management. Technical
- Experience working with immigrants and refugees and/or understanding immigration issues.
- Proficiency in a settlement and/or resettlement language preferred.
- Indigenous cultural competencies and/or lived experience with Indigenous communities
criminal record check, including vulnerable populations check; completion of WHMIS training;
and proof of vaccination status.
Key duties/responsibilities
- Develops a returntowork plan that includes information on client's work preferences,
- Conducts employment planning meetings with job seekers.
- Liaises with Immigrant Employment Specialists from all employment programs to fully support
- Locates prospective employers in the community appropriate to clients' return to work plan.
- Provides local career and labour market information and identifies employment opportunities
- Determines onthejob supports needed for employment placements.
- Monitors client progress during work experience placements and employment; Provides support
- Maintains progress reports in client management systems including ICM and/or related
- Creates awareness of antioppressive/social justice issues.
- Participates in employmentrelated training opportunities to stay current on issues impacting
- Participates in regular team and organizationwide staff meetings.
- Follows all ICA policies and administrative procedures.
