The CNC Machinist/Operator Position_

At CGL we machine a wide range of complex parts for our non-automotive customers which require your expertise. Our state-of-the-art equipment includes many new CNC's including 600mm and 800mm horizontals.


Responsibilities:


  • Maintaining a clean and safe work area while operating equipment according to established procedures.
  • Support, communicate and implement Lean Manufacturing principles into all areas of responsibility.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, charts and tables or study sample parts to determine machining operation to be performed
  • Compute dimensions and tolerances and measure and lay out work pieces
  • Set up, operate and maintain a variety of machine tools including computer numerically controlled (CNC) tools to perform precision, nonrepetitive machining operations such as turning, milling, boring, drilling and other operations
  • Complete changeover activities (Machine preparation from previous job setup to new job setup)
  • Complete manufacturing of first part per process instruction
  • Verify dimensions of machined parts for accuracy and conformance to specifications using micrometres, verniers, callipers, height gauges or other specialized measuring instruments.
  • Work with engineering and Setup Technicians to develop, and improve CNC programs
  • Advise supervisor and Setup team of technical advancements to increase production
  • Report deviations from specifications and tolerances to supervisor
  • Document completion of all required processes and record production in Barcoding system
  • Troubleshoot parts when issues occur
  • Communicating critical information to supervisor and oncoming shifts including quality concerns, tooling issues, maintenance concerns and production requirements.
  • Setting up fixture components for jobs that require CNC Machining
  • Understanding and have functional use of CNC code and CNC programming
  • Setting machine origins in accordance with the setup instructions
  • Setting and loading all tools in conjunction with setup instructions to complete assigned jobs
  • Train Operators as needed on job related items
  • Other duties as required.

Key Qualification/Requirements:
(Educational Requirements, equip requirements, software skills or programs)

  • High school Diploma or equivalent with 5+ years experience in machinig operations
  • Knowledge of Machining methods, cutting qualities of metal and tools
  • Ability to reach and understand blueprints and technical drawings
  • G&M code fluency and ability to edit programs
  • Set up experience and operation of CNC Milling and/or Turning Machines
  • Understanding of GD&T
  • Experience using measuring tools and gauges
  • Experience with Fanuc Controls
  • Familiar with SPC
