Position Description:

The Clinical Research Project Manager works closely with all Divisional Members to oversee research operations and research awards activities of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery according to regulatory and institutional guidelines and requirements.

The Division research interests include:
improving surgical outcomes of craniofacial, cleft lip and palate, burns, upper limb, and reconstructive surgery.

This position further includes managing clinical research staff, research trainees, and volunteers as well as coordinating scientific, feasibility, and operation reviews.


The position will also involve direct research activities including patient recruitment and data collection, study administration, preparing consents and paperwork (e.g., renewals, amendments) required by the Research Ethics Board, and organizing data entry and analysis.

The CRPM will also assist in the preparation of study results, including presentation, progress reports, and manuscripts. May also fulfill Clinical Research Assistant responsibilities.


Here¿s What You¿ll Get To Do:

  • Fosters staff awareness and participation in the research process; identifies knowledge gaps and participates in the development of clinical questions, research proposals with the inter-professional team to enhance current evidence-based practice
  • Establishes and manages strong relationships between the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery with the Clinical Research Offices, Research Ethics Board, Grants Management Offices, Scholarships and Awards Offices
  • Conceptually develop, design and implement quality improvement, program evaluation, and advanced clinical research projects/trials
  • Authoritatively make recommendations on appropriate research protocols, research methodology, prestudy data organization, and data analysis for staff and trainee projects
  • Conduct study level I biostatistics data analysis
  • Supervise clinical Masters Allied Health students (MSW, MSc OT), summer undergraduate and medical research student projects
  • Act as a liaison between clinical research coordinators, 3D camera technician, research students, research volunteers, clinical staff and investigator, and/or Division Chief
  • Supervise/mentor clinical research coordinators, research assistants and research volunteers
  • Engage in knowledge translation activities including presenting research findings at local and international conferences
  • Establishes and manages strong relationship with University of Toronto Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Research Director to coordinate resident research projects at SickKids
  • Accountability to Chief and Division Members to provide regular updates on departmentwide research activities
  • Establishes and manages relationships with citywide Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery research coordinators to conduct interdepartmental benchmarking

Here¿s What You¿ll Need:


  • MSc or equivalent, with advanced knowledge of epidemiology and clinical research methods
  • Proficient in data management software programs (i.e. REDCap, Microsoft Excel)
  • Proficient one or more basic statistical software programs (i.e. SPSS, R studio, SAS)
  • Demonstrated commitment and actions in advancing equity, diversity and inclusion objectives
