    JOB DESCRIPTION

    The Health Equity, Diversity and Inclusion unit plays a key role in advancing health equity and inclusion commitments, policies, Indigenous reconciliation commitments, and diversity plans within the organization. Ottawa Public Health (OPH) strives to offer diversified services and programs designed to address the health needs of the population while proactively breaking down barriers to access.

    As part of the team, your responsibilities include supporting the implementation and evaluation of the OPH Reconcili-Action plan, fostering meaningful engagement with Indigenous organizations and communities to enhance population health, and developing strategies for Indigenous cultural safety and relationship building.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

    Completion of a 4-year degree in relevant fields such as Indigenous Studies, Social Work, Public Policy, or related disciplines. Minimum 3 years of experience working with Indigenous communities and comprehensive knowledge of Indigenous health are required.

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE

    • Understanding of Indigenous perspectives, cultures, and community agencies
    • Familiarity with current issues impacting Indigenous communities
    • Knowledge of anti-racist and anti-oppressive approaches
    • Proficiency in Indigenous pedagogy and worldviews
    • Awareness of Indigenous history, colonization, racism, and Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action
    • Understanding of change management theories and methodologies
    • Knowledge of consultation and engagement practices with Indigenous organizations
    • Familiarity with public health systems and government processes
    • Proficiency in MS Office and project management
    • Knowledge of Ottawa's diverse communities and applicable health legislation
    • Understanding of health and safety regulations
