  • As a Building Maintenance Worker 2, you will be a frontline representative working directly with internal clients, contractors, and vendors to ensure City owned and/or managed facilities are operating efficiently and effectively.
This position responds to daily service work order requests submitted by City staff working out of these facilities, initiates own work orders, and provides immediate assistance in emergency situations (such as:
plumbing/roof leaks, sewer backups, overhead door malfunctions and other maintenance urgencies)


Primary duties include:

  • Repair or replace all types of plumbing fixtures (sinks, urinals, toilets, flush meters and taps) in commercial or residential buildings.
  • Carry out regular scheduled preventive maintenance of structures, equipment, hardware and document observed building conditions for shortterm maintenance repairs or longterm life cycle replacement.
  • Execute planned and demand building maintenance.
  • Coordinate inspections of fire extinguishers, Automated External Defibrillator (AED) devices, base building lighting, and kitchens.
  • Support corporate events and public access program with various tasks in preparation.
  • Maintain reflecting pools, their strainers, fittings and underground irrigation systems and controllers.

Qualifications

  • A High School diploma or equivalency (e.g., GED), plus at least 2 years of related facility infrastructure experience based on the primary duties identified.
  • Exposure to carpentry and plumbing and the ability to trace waterlines to the shutoff and a basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems is required.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending OR; a valid Graduated Driver's Licence (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending.
  • Computer literacy and experience with Word, Excel and Outlook will be considered an asset.
  • Experience operating forklifts, manlifts, power tools, power equipment, ability to coordinate with subcontractors and to lift 50lbs; will be considered an asset.
  • Strong communication and problemsolving skills with the ability to work independently and as a team.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed both inside and outside, in high rise office buildings, garages, health clinics, workshops, and multi services facilities.

Ability to work on-call shifts including evenings and weekends.

This position may be used to fill similar positions within the work unit. Additional positions may be filled with this competition.


Pre-employment Requirements

  • Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.
