Position:
Government Relations Specialist


Responsibilities:


Policy Analysis:

  • Monitor and analyze government policies, legislation, and regulatory changes at the federal, provincial, and municipal levels.
  • Assess the impact of proposed policies on the organization and its stakeholders.

Advocacy:

  • Develop and implement advocacy strategies to promote the organization's interests.
  • Build and maintain relationships with government officials, politicians, and key decisionmakers.

Communication:

  • Communicate the organization's positions and concerns to government stakeholders.
  • Draft persuasive and wellresearched documents, including position papers, briefs, and submissions.

Relationship Building:

  • Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with government officials, relevant departments, and regulatory bodies.
  • Collaborate with industry associations, advocacy groups, and other stakeholders.

Public Affairs:

  • Develop and execute public affairs campaigns to generate public support for the organization's goals.
  • Coordinate media relations and engage with the press on relevant issues.

Legislative Affairs:

  • Monitor legislative proceedings and participate in parliamentary committee hearings.
  • Provide guidance on legislative processes and potential amendments.

Risk Management:

  • Identify potential risks and opportunities related to government actions or policies.
  • Provide strategic advice to senior management on navigating regulatory challenges.

Compliance:

  • Ensure the organization complies with relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards.
  • Advise on legal and regulatory matters affecting the organization.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to understand their concerns and perspectives.
  • Collaborate with crossfunctional teams to align government relations strategies with broader organizational goals.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in political science, public policy, law, or a related field
  • Several years of experience in government relations, public affairs, lobbying, or related roles.
  • Indepth knowledge of the Canadian political and legislative landscape.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and influence stakeholders.
