- Assist the Program Manager/Senior Planner in updating the Municipal Flood Line Mapping Document, ensuring it reflects a science-based approach to developing flood line maps consistently and effectively across Nova Scotia.
- Be involved with regular program/project review meetings.
- Assist in procurement activities such as drafting Request for Proposals (RFPs), Statements of Work (SoWs), contract development, vendor selection, and negotiations
- Support the alignment of deliverables with other initiatives outside the program by following best practice frameworks and processes.
- Have an important role in building partnerships and collaborative relationships across government and various sectors.
- Ensure effective communication of project scope, objectives, and progress

About Our OpportunityAs the Municipal Flood Line Mapping (MFLM) Program Student, you'll be part of an exciting, transformative project; helping support the administration and implementation of a multi-million-dollar initiative led by the Department of Municipal Affairs & Housing (DMAH) and the Department of Environment & Climate Change (ECC), with support from the federal Ministry of Natural Resources Canada.
This program aims to conduct comprehensive flood hazard mapping for all of Nova Scotia's watersheds and coastline, directly influencing the application of crucial policies such as the Municipal Government Act and other climate-related regulations.
You will work closely with the Assistant Provincial Director of Planning and support the MFLM Program Manager (Senior Planner), monitoring project progress, building stakeholder relationships, and ensuring strategic objectives are met.

You must be currently enrolled in a graduate program in land use planning (or similar) with at least one year remaining until completion.

Working ConditionsYour hours of work will typically be 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday to Friday. As a valued member of our team at the Department of Municipal Affairs and Housing, you'll collaborate with dedicated staff within our office environment. While most tasks are conducted in-office, there may be exciting opportunities for on-site visits to municipalities. Additionally, we offer flexibility, allowing for up to two days of remote work per week, providing a balanced and adaptable work experience.
