Working for Corporate and Foundation Relations, University Development, External Relations


The Corporate and Foundation Relations (CFR) team is one of seven units that make up University Development at the University of Alberta.

CFR is a diverse, inclusive and highly collaborative development unit —a place for any individual who wishes to make lasting difference by securing financial support for research, students and programming.

Whether through skilled donor engagement, strong community partnerships, or a passionate dedication to philanthropy, Corporate and Foundation Relations staff act as a catalyst for societal change.


Position


Reporting to the Director, University Development, the Manager, Corporate and Foundation Relations (CFR) is the strategic lead for fundraising activities with corporations and foundations with the goal of maximizing financial support, primarily from those which regularly make gifts of $1M or greater, for University-wide and faculty-specific priorities.


The Manager is responsible for delivering an integrated and coordinated fundraising program including a highly customized cultivation, solicitation and stewardship experience for corporate and foundation donors.

The Manager will oversee a donor portfolio and will also manage and coach a team of professional fundraising staff who are adept with the understanding of the community investment needs of corporations and foundations.

The Manager will ensure the CFR team creates mutually beneficial and valuable partnerships by aligning donor goals with fundraising priorities and financial needs.

The Manager will ensure all CFR staff utilize their established skills in strategy development, relationship building and negotiation to provide specialist advice and support to colleges, faculties and academic units in the area of fundraising partnerships with corporations and foundations.

The Manager will interact extensively and utilize the expertise of supporting fundraising units.

The Manager will interact primarily with the Associate Vice-President, Development and Alumni Relations, as well as with frontline fundraising colleagues across External Relations and Development to develop strategies for identifying, qualifying and engaging corporate and foundation donors.

The Manager will regularly convene faculty development leaders, college deans, faculty deans and members of the senior leadership team and academic community to develop and execute collaborative, coordinated and enhanced fundraising strategies.


The Manager will ensure the CFR team utilizes the expertise of the Office of Vice President Research and Innovation (VPRI), academic units, RSO (Research Services Office), Strategic Partnerships Office (Enterprise) and other academic units on interdisciplinary priorities to deploy university resources most strategically and seek the most value for the University of Alberta.
