    Description

    The Department of Bio-Medical Engineering within the Schulich School of Engineering invites applications for a Backend Software Developer. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

    Reporting to the Principle Investigator, the incumbent will spearhead the development of an online repository of teaching modules based on digital human anatomy contents. They will create a system that seamlessly integrates with a set of provided 3D human anatomy & physiology models, embedded in immersive scenarios, and will serve as a dynamic repository for course content, including labels, descriptions, videos, and links to external resources. The successful candidate will also develop a user-friendly publishing platform to empower instructors, content creators and 3D modellers to easily upload educational materials, as well as enable students to download and interact with the 3D scenarios as part of their learning experiences.

    Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

    • Design and implement a robust backend architecture for an online anatomy database that integrates with 3D model sets.
    • Develop APIs for efficient data retrieval and manipulation within the 3D scenes.
    • Create a secure and intuitive publishing platform for content creators to upload educational materials.
    • Ensure the platform is scalable, supporting a growing library of interactive 3D scenarios and a wide user base.
    • Collaborate with BME instructors, 3D modellers, and students to ensure seamless integration and user experience.
    • Implement best practices in database management and security to protect user data.
    • Stay updated with the latest backend technologies and frameworks that could enhance the platform's functionality.
    • Integration with Epic Online Services (EOS)

    Qualifications / Requirements:

    • Proven experience in backend development, with a strong portfolio of projects that demonstrate your skills in cloud, database, and API development.
    • Proficiency in server-side languages such as Python, Ruby, Java, PHP, .Net, or similar.
    • Background in implementing cloud-based solutions preferably in AWS
    • Experience with database technology such as MySQL, MongoDB, Oracle, and SQLServer.
    • Knowledge of 3D modelling and animation workflows is a plus.
    • Strong understanding of best practices in data security.
    • Knowledge and experience with Epic Online Services (EOS).
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
