    This position could be located in the following location(s): Centre for Applied Research - Calgary, AB

    • This position provides the option to work from home on Mondays and Fridays each week, with the requirement to report to the primary NOVA Chemicals work location on Tuesdays through Thursdays. Employees can opt out of the hybrid schedule and will be expected to work Monday-Friday from the primary work location.

    We are seeking a Product Safety Advisor with a focus on North American Chemical Control Regulations. As a member of the Product Safety and Additives Technology Team, you will be involved with advising and supporting the business on Product Safety matters including regulatory issues, chemical control laws, product end use management, and compliance reporting.

    You Will Use Your Expertise To:

    • Track regulatory developments focusing on the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA), 1999 and the US Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) and also covering global regulations.
    • Assess compliance of existing and new products and processes opposite the requirements of the laws.
    • Respond to requests for information from Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC)/US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
    • Prepare notifications for new substances when required.
    • Monitor ECCC/EPA assessments and advocate where appropriate.
    • Participate in relevant Canadian and US Trade Associations.
    • Maintain regulatory databases and tracking systems to ensure compliance.
    • Provide regulatory support for facilities and the business on chemical control requirements.
    • Respond to customer inquiries on regulatory status of products.

    What we are looking for:

    • Ph.D. in Chemistry with a minimum of three (3) years of experience in an industrial or consulting setting (chemical, petrochemicals, polymers), or a Master's degree in Chemistry with a minimum of six (6) years of related experience, or a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry with a minimum of eight (8) years of related experience.
    • Experience in North American chemical control regulations, with Canada as a minimum, US TSCA preferred, and knowledge of international requirements an asset.
    • Excellent project management and communication skills (written and oral)
    • Good Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills are necessary, as well as familiarity with SAP.
    • Knowledge of PowerBI would be an asset for managing regulatory data.
    • Demonstrated aptitude for problem solving, troubleshooting, innovation.
    • Must work well in a team setting.
    • Must be a self-starter and able to work independently on multiple competing priorities.

    Additional Information:

    • Relocation will be considered for this position
    • Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience
    • This role requires up to 10% travel
    • The successful candidate is required to provide proof of a valid driver's license and be eligible to travel easily between Canada and the U.S.
