Job Description:
A part time temporary position is available to teach a portion of FMST 1115 – Perspectives on Family Studies. This is a first-year course designed to introduce students to the definitions, concepts, experiences, dynamics, and theories of family through an interdisciplinary approach.FMST 1115 – Perspectives on Family Studies guides students to more specialized Family Studies core courses: History of the Family, Sociology and the Family, Psychology of the Family and Women Studies and the Family. It is a team-taught course so applicants should be able to co-operate with other instructors in the development of curriculum and the major assignment, the integration of lectures, and team marking.
It is desirable that applicants have expertise in research in the History of Canadian Families and /or experience in teaching courses on Families in a Canadian context which pays particular attention to diverse families, gender, social class and colonial. The successful applicant will have experience teaching a course of similar content and instructional structure, specifically on issues related to family and the dynamics of relationships.
Required Qualifications:
· Master's degree PhD in a relevant field is required (e.g., History, Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology).
· Demonstrated post-secondary teaching experience related to the course content. · Willing and able to teach in a team environment.
· Strong preference for candidates with a Master's degree or PhD in either History, Psychology, Sociology, Women's Studies, Indigenous Studies or other relevant disciplines).
· Available to teach Wed from 14:30-16:20 in class · Experience using teaching technology to post some content online and Brightspace.
· Team teaching experience.
Length of appointment: September 1, 2024, to December 31, 2024 (a successful applicant newly appointed as an instructional faculty member of the Langara Faculty Association may be appointed as of August for the purpose of course preparation).
This is a temporary, part time position at 1/16 of full-time for one, single semester to provide coverage for a leave.
