    Job Description

    The Sr. Research Scientist Level I is accountable to the Senior Group Leader - SSRD & Process Analytical, for all activities relating research and development. The Sr. Research Scientist I, SSRD is a key contributor to the ongoing research within the SSRD group.

    The majority of the work performed is considered to be non-GMP. This position requires University Degree in Chemistry (either PhD or MSc as a minimum).

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Core:

  • Follow Environmental, Health and Safety rules/regulations and report any workplace incidents, injuries or accidents immediately
  • Adhere to the policies and guidelines set out in the Eurofins Alphora Employee Handbook
  • Work harmoniously with all fellow employees
  • Design and perform crystallization process development experimentations to achieve desired polymorph and optimized crystallization process
  • Design and execute high throughput experiments to explore synthetic organic reactions as well as polymorphs, salts and co-crystal formations
  • Perform experiments to monitor physicochemical stability of active pharmaceutical ingredients under accelerated conditions
  • Conduct fundamental physicochemical characterization of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) using X-ray Powder Diffraction (XRPD), dynamic vapor sorption (DVS), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Thermal Gravimetric Analysis (TGA), Liquid Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), Particle Size Analyzer, Optical Microscope and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM)
  • Support project management by generating plans and timelines, preparing regular project updates, participating in the meetings, communicating to the clients and other departments on project-related issues, generating interim and final reports
  • Author project updates and process development reports
  • Work neatly to maintain the laboratory in an organized state
  • Additional:

  • May be required to assist technology transfer activities in manufacturing facilities
  • Adhere to relevant SOPs and other regulation while attending and performing operations in cGMP areas
  • Instrument maintenance under supervision of SSRD Group Leader
  • SSRD lab maintenance in collaboration with other SSRD team members
  • Qualifications

  • MSc or PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry or Pharmaceutical Sciences
  • Relevant experience: 1 to 5 years for PhD or 5-10 years for MSc
  • Strong experience in the use of FBRM and/or HTS equipment
  • Demonstrated strong organizational skills
  • Experience in crystallization scale-ups
  • Excellent teamwork abilities
  • COMMUNICATION AND CONTACTS:

    Within the Company

  • Interacts with Analytical Services and Research and Development departments
  • Quality Assurance for preparation of regulatory documents (e.g. specifications, IPC, CMC section for submission etc.)
  • Outside of the Company

  • Interacts with various contractors and suppliers of services and equipment
  • Supports communication with clients
