    Description

    Position Summary

    The successful candidate will prepare, paint, decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces, trimmings and fixtures in Division schools and buildings.

    Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • preparing painting surfaces by washing walls, repairing holes or removing old paint
  • mixing, matching and applying paints and other finishes to various surfaces
  • providing decorative and faux finishes as the project requires
  • handling planning and prep work in an efficient manner
  • preparing the surrounding area by covering with cloth or plastic
  • moving furniture and equipment as necessary to reach the entire surface of the project
  • calculating the amount of materials and time required for the project
  • removing fixtures including light switch covers and plug plates
  • taping off areas as needed
  • cleaning up supplies and replacing fixtures when project is complete

    • Education/Qualifications

  • Alberta Journeyperson or Red Seal Painter certificate
  • valid Alberta driver's license
  • experience working in a school or institutional environment

    • Skills and Abilities

  • must have the ability to: lift up to 25k, climb ladders, work at heights, stand and walk for extended periods, perform work in awkward positions
  • must be able to undertake tasks requiring good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
  • good problem solving, organizational, time management and record keeping skills
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • computer literacy
  • ability to work with a team or individually
