    Youth Development Coordinator

    Temporary (Canada Summer Jobs)

    Edmonton, AB

    Reports to: Team Lead, Volunteer & Community Engagement

    We're looking for a mission-driven Youth Development Coordinator who is passionate about creating more accessible, inclusive, and equitable communities across Canada where people with low vision have unlimited opportunities and can experience life free from barriers and discrimination.

    Your Impact at CNIB

    • Assist the Children and Youth team in the development and facilitation of summer programs and camps for children and youth with sight loss and multiple disabilities.
    • Engage children and youth in developmentally appropriate activities that help them practice and develop skills in interpersonal relationships, teamwork, leadership, self-advocacy, and community engagement.
    • Build appropriate relationships with participants' families, working appropriately and sensitively with diverse cultural, religious, mental health and emotional needs.
    • Assist in maintaining aspects of the wide range of sensory opportunities housed within CNIB and the Calgary office including but not limited to, fragrant garden, outdoor play/activity space, and accessible kitchen.
    • Assist in collection of post-program survey data on participant experience and outcomes.
    • Maintain up-to-date participant files, logging all service tracking in a timely manner.

    Requirements

    Who you are:

    Education and Certifications

    • Experience working with children with sight loss and multiple disabilities.
    • Experience planning and delivering children and youth programs.
    • Proficiency working with Microsoft Office suite, including Office 365 online collaboration tools.
    • Must be able to provide a clear criminal record check including vulnerable sectors.

    Experience and Qualifications

    • Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task.
    • Strong interpersonal and diplomacy skills.
    • Knowledge of normal growth and development of children, and ability to interact with children effectively.
    • Maturity and sensitivity when working with the needs of persons experiencing sight loss.
    • Ethical behaviour and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
    • Ability to organize and prioritise workload demands within strict time constraints.
    • Ability to address and manage emergency situations.
    • Must be organized, self-motivated, flexible and adaptable.
    • Knowledge of disability rights issues is an asset.
    • Awareness of specific issues regarding sight loss is an asset.
    • Personal or professional experience relating to blindness and sight loss is considered an asset.
    • Personal or professional experience working with assistive technology and/or accessible environments is considered an asset.

    Eligibility

    This position is funded through Canada Summer Jobs. To be eligible to participate in the Canada Summer Jobs initiative, individuals must:

    • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment.
    • Be a Canadian citizens, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
    • Be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations. International students are not eligible participants. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian citizens or permanent residents.
