Research Assistant - Peer Mentor (Fine Arts and Oral History)


ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
This role reports to Aaron Goodman


SUMMARY

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducting remote oral history interviews with peer harm reduction workers in B.C.
  • Drawing on academic experience and knowledge to mentor and supervise a number of undergraduate research assistants who are conducting oral history interviews, producing a podcast, and creating graphic illustrations.
  • Instructing undergraduate research assistants about how to complete progress charts to keep data organized and saved correctly on KPU One Drive
  • Guiding undergraduate research assistants in writing reflections about their experiences and knowledge collaboratively produced in oral history interviews and through art/illustration production
  • Helping undergraduate research assistants obtain written consent from peer harm reduction workers to publish their oral history interviews and illustrations about them in a podcast, on a website, and as part of public presentations.
  • Supervising undergraduate research assistants as they conduct an online survey with peer harm reduction workers about their experiences in the study
  • Assisting and guiding undergraduate research assistants in coding and analyzing oral history interview transcripts
  • Cowriting an outline and scholarly paper about the study. This will including curating scholarly and nonscholarly sources and writing brief research summaries
  • Contributing to the creation of presentations about the study and copresenting in public forums and academic conferences
  • Other tasks as requested related to the study, including leading weekly online meetings with undergraduate research assistants, speaking semiregularly with the PI, and planning the overall project together

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience and/or interest in working with members of vulnerable or marginalized communities.
  • Experience or interest in supervising/mentoring undergraduate students.
  • Experience and/or interest in producing graphic illustrations and engaging in oral history research.
