The meeting venues at DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Edmonton, AB are extensive.

Guests can choose from among two ballrooms, 15 meeting rooms and an amphitheater for their important conference or dream wedding.

We can configure our 35,000+ sq. ft. of flexible meeting and banquet space for up to 800 guests


Basic Purpose:


The Group Sales Manager is responsible to achieve hotel revenue, profit and customer satisfaction goals by negotiating SMERF, ( Social, Military, Educational, Religious, and Fraternal groups) Leisure, Business Travel, Group, business and coordinating the execution of the business with other departments.

Primary focus will be group and catering needs of the SMERF market segment for the DoubleTree by Hilton and the Home2Suites by Hilton West Edmonton.


Major Responsibilities and Duties:


  • Plan, upsell and detail the meeting/function with the client, including space requirement, times, equipment, menus, billing instructions, etc. and submit the appropriate proposal and/or sales contracts. Complete appropriate paper work, i.e. Function sheets, change sheets, convention/group resume, reservation forms, Lost Business Reports, etc. and distribute to Hotel departments.
  • Negotiate & prepare sales proposals and contract, understanding legal terms and conditions.
  • Prepare proposals for potential clients and repeat business
  • Exceed guest and team member expectations by providing the best service and maintaining a positive attitude
  • Conduct site meetings with clients, and attend and/or assist hotel functions when needed
  • Meet or exceed monthly sales revenue and activity quotas.
  • Ensure that function set up meets and exceeds guest expectations by working closely with conveners and meeting planners; this is inclusive but not limited to meetings rooms, equipment requirements, food and beverage
  • Achieve catering profit goals by ensuring that negotiated function prices are in line with hotel profit
  • Effectively manage customer budgets to maximize revenue and meet customer needs.
  • Manage existing client relationships while seeking new business for the hotel.
  • Provide input and ideas towards marketing and sales strategies.
  • Effectively solicit repeat group business.
  • Prospect potential new clients for catering, and/or group room business
  • Interact with guests to obtain feedback on product quality and service levels; able to respond to and handle guest problems and complaints.
  • Emphasize guest satisfaction during all departmental meetings and focus on continuous improvement.
  • Attend preevent meetings as needed to understand group needs.
  • Accurately forecast group sleeping rooms and event revenue for groups.
  • Attend networking and local community events acting as an ambassador for the hotel.
  • Adheres to sales and catering policies & procedures; including Net Delphi processes
  • Ensure accuracy in recording all details on contracts, proposals and correspondence with particular emphasis on menu information, pricing, organization and setup and billing requirements.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required:


  • Effective sales skills to upsell products and services.
  • Proven interpersonal, time management, organizational and presentation skills, with a high level of detailorientation.
  • Knowledge of Hotel Front Office/Reservation/Sales procedures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; strong problem solving skills.
  • Flexible and energetic with ability to work well in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
  • Delphi experience an asset

Working Conditions:


  • Normal office working conditions.
  • Lifting of supplies, material/collateral. From time to time the position will require long periods of standing.
  • Some weekend, evening or holiday hours may be required.

Experience, Training and Education (demonstrating requirements):

  • University or College degree or diploma in Hotel Management/ Business Administration or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Previous Hotel experience
  • Previous catering services and/or hotel sales experience is required
  • Preferred experienced in Branded and or full service hotel
  • Knowledge of Event Service Operations
