Overview:


Reporting to the GM of Vancouver Island, the Field Operations Superintendent oversees the company's safety and environmental systems as it applies to successful product manufacturing and delivery, project management, and client satisfaction.

This role supports the operations to ensure Lafarge continues to lead the way in safety and environmental excellence and employer of choice.


The Field Operations Superintendent is to provide support to both the hourly and salary employees in respect to plant and jobsite safety as well as other tasks related to safety and environment.

This is conducted by providing onsite support for operators as well as participating in project hazard assessments in partnership with the Supervisors; both prior to the job commencing and on an ongoing basis.


Responsibilities:


Safety:


  • Ensure all training certifications are valid, and reschedule when required
  • Coordinate and facilitate Annual Kick Off Meetings for all employees
  • Facilitate Preemployment and Post incident testing
  • Track Division's safety leading and lagging indicators and communicate to senior management team
  • Conducting inspections and audits
  • Facilitate incident investigations, liaise with regulatory authorities, and ensure compliance
  • Participate in industry related meetings promoting best practices and articulating employees concerns
  • Execute corporate and Division specific policies, and safety initiatives to improve overall safety performance
  • Coach and train Managers and Supervisors on internal and external safety policies and programs
  • Maintaining/Improving COR Certification

Management/Project Support:


  • Oversee all projects to ensure safety and environment compliance for product delivery
  • Conduct risk assessments and provide suggested controls for risks associated with acquired jobs
  • Assist in problem solving site management issues access, traffic management plans, signage, wash out areas, safe limits of approach, encroachment of excavations, etc.
  • Liaise with contractor safety personnel and provide professional support if required
  • Provide onsite supervision for operators

Specific Accountabilities:


  • Ensure maintenance of safety mechanisms on fleet and plant processes
  • Assist to communicate operational learning's to operators
  • Manage MVA reporting documents, and lead ICBC claim disputes
  • Manage the Division's Contractor Management Program auditing procedures and process to ensure regulatory requirements are met
  • Facilitate CSM program, coordinate orientations, record keeping, distribute discipline letters, audit contractor safety programs
  • Evaluate safety features on new and current equipment, trial new innovations, and provide feedback for management

Qualifications:

Education and Work Experience:


  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety
  • Minimum 3 years of industry related safety experience
  • Previous experience demonstrating skills in project management, operations, or production
  • Experience in a unionized environment is an asset
