Responsibilities:


  • Conduct comprehensive inspections of fire safety equipment, considering the diverse functions of academic buildings, labs/shops, and recreational areas on the campus
  • Perform testing of annunciator panels and sprinkler systems to ensure proper functionality
  • Inspect fire extinguishers for accessibility and evaluate conditions of fire hoses while conducting timely maintenance or replacements as needed
  • Create testing inspection schedule for all campuses, engaging with stakeholders to ensure mínimal interruption to normal business operations and notify the fire department of the planned test
  • Ensure any faulty equipment identified at the testing repair stage is adhered to in the most efficient manner focusing on life safety as a priority
  • Engage third party contractors for assistance on certain repairs in conjunction with the Manager
  • Document repairs to help determine life cycles of equipment so that future needs are met proactively
  • Develop a comprehensive troubleshooting framework, incorporating root cause analysis and trend analysis to address recurring issues
  • Determine the best measures to ensure that all life safety equipment is still able to function properly while waiting on repairs
  • Verify legal and municipal requirements as it relates to fire safety and provide reports or recommendations for improvement
  • Review and understand architectural drawings and blueprints, providing detailed feedback in document form on any items of concern or opportunity for improvement
  • Participate in preoccupancy inspections to ensure compliance with all fire related legislations or codes
  • Establish a continuous improvement program from generated reports to address compliance gaps and track repairs to identify trends
  • Assist Manager to implement an internal document management system for permits, inspections, and compliance records, to help in streamlining regulatory reporting processes
  • Ensure comprehensive documentation of plans, conduct audits for compliance, and liaison with regulatory authorities during inspections
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive Fire Safety Plans for all campus buildings, encompassing academic facilities, labs/shops, and recreational areas
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments for each building, identifying potential fire hazards and developing mitigation strategies in conjunction with the Manager
  • Provide specialized training sessions on Fire Safety Plans for faculty, staff, and students
  • Engage in community outreach to foster awareness and shared responsibility for fire safety within the campus community

Qualifications:


  • Highschool Diploma is required; Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFAA) Technician Registration or ECAO Certifire certified (in good standing) is required
  • Minimum of three years practical experience in fire safety system maintenance and repairs, inspection and testing, and effective documentation, including recommendations and Fire Safety Plans is required
  • A strong understanding of the Ontario Fire Code, the National Fire Code of Canada, and other relevant regulations and standards
  • Strong selfmotivation and ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Conduct detailed audits and provide clear and concise reports to stakeholders
  • Must have the ability to read and interpret both mechanical and architectural schematics and blueprints
  • Must have the ability to think critically and make decisions quickly in emergency situations
  • Must have effective time management skills, computer skills and communication skills
  • Valid G driver's license and ability to be insured by a College vehicle
  • Access to reliable transportation and ability to travel to multiple campus locations
