Limestone District School Board, located on the shores of Lake Ontario proudly serves approximately 20,000 students at 49 elementary schools, 10 secondary schools, and Limestone Community Education Centres in the Townships Central Frontenac, Addington Highlands, North Frontenac, South Frontenac, Loyalist and Stone Mills, as well the Town of Greater Napanee and Kingston and the Islands.

Our school district covers a geographic area of 7,719 square kilometers and includes more than 3,000,000 square feet of Board facilities.

******Reporting to the Outdoor Education Consultant, the Outdoor Education Technician supports the provision of outdoor education programs for students of the Limestone District School Board.


SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Administration
***- Supports the Outdoor Education Consultant with the Program Manager in hiring, training, and coordinating seasonal and casual staff during the spring, fall and winter months.

  • Provide administrative assistance for the Gould Lake Outdoor Centre and outdoor education programs.
  • Other role related duties as assigned

Instruction

  • Support the delivery of the curriculum developed by the Outdoor Education Consultant and/or Program Manager.
  • Support the daily instruction of Gould Lake Programs including the following: orienteering, pond studies, mineral and rock studies, plants & soils, wilderness art, fur trade, microscopes, endangered species and survival games, team building, sea kayaking, canoeing, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, natural history exploration, and indigenous Education.
  • Other role related duties as assigned

Maintenance

  • Support the maintenance and regular safety checks of all Gould Lake trails, safety equipment and outdoor education equipment including the following: fire extinguishers, smoke detectors, propane stoves, outhouses, waterfront equipment, first aid and emergency kits and other equipment in the portables and/or barn
  • Other role related duties as assigned

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

  • College Diploma in Forest, Outdoor Education or Recreation or similar
  • ORCKA Canoe Tripping and Paddling Level
  • ORCKA Canoe Tripping Instructor Certification
  • NLS Certification
  • Wilderness First Aid
  • First Aid and CPR
  • Chainsaw Certification
  • Superior interpersonal, communication and presentation/oral speaking skills, including commitment to customer service
  • Excellent time management and organizations skills as well as ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated analytical, problem solving and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects in a confidential, fastpaced environment
  • Ability to work as part of a team as well as independently, with mínimal supervision
