    About the Role

    The Department of Child Studies and Social Work, Faculty of Health, Community and Education invites applications for a one year Limited Term position (Social Work) which will commence August 15, 2024, subject to final budgetary approval, at the Rank of Assistant Professor.

    The successful applicant will have:

  • A strong interest and the ability to teach and develop social work courses in areas related to clinical, and child intervention practice.
  • A proven ability to engage in curriculum development and delivery.
  • A proven commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Accessibility, and Decolonization and Indigenization. This would include knowledge and experience working with diverse communities (i.e., Indigenous, racialized, Francophone, newcomers and refugees, 2SLGBTQIA+).
  • The ability to engage in service and program administration at all levels, including evidence of leadership.
  • A required minimum of five (5) years of direct experience as a practicing Social Worker post-MSW.

    • The successful candidate will have the ability to teach in one or more of Child Intervention and Clinical Social Work. In addition, applicants should indicate areas of specific teaching/practice strengths which would include anti-oppressive and Indigenous perspectives, social justice, and leadership.

    New faculty are hired into one of two work patterns. The teaching/ scholarship/ service pattern (TSS) focuses on teaching with the requirement that the faculty member be involved in a research program as well as service to the Mount Royal community. The teaching/ service pattern (TS) focuses on teaching and service only. The successful candidate for this role will be hired into the teaching/ service pattern (TS) . There is an option to change work patterns after tenure.

    A PhD in Social Work or near completion is preferred, a Master's Degree is required. The successful candidate should have a minimum of 5 years direct experience as a practicing Social Worker post-MSW.
    The successful candidate should have relevant undergraduate teaching and professional experience. Applicants must either be currently registered as a Social Worker with the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) or be eligible for registration.
