Overview of Position:


Reporting to the Controller, the Accounts Receivable Specialist is a key member of the accounting team, responsible for the full cycle of accounts receivable, bank book transactions, and related financial reporting.

The role requires a continuous improvement mindset and the ability to identify and recommend efficient process solutions.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Set up new customers in the system and updating existing customers' information.
  • Processing and posting customer credits related to rebates, allowances, freight, unloading, and other credits.
  • Build working relationships with Sales teams, as well as the accounting and finance team to understand the deduction programs and their accounting impacts.
  • Compile, review, and reconcile trade spend deductions from customer remittances (e.g. discounts, promotion spend, admin fees etc.).
  • Analyze and verify customers' debit claims.
  • Work with customers to dispute and obtain repayment for invalid claims.
  • Coordinating followups on aged receivables for collection with customers.
  • Perform customer account cleanup tasks such as writeoffs of small amounts, and bad debt.
  • Periodend close activities as related to rebates and deductions.
  • Manage AR comparative report weekly for review with the Accounting Manager and Controller.
  • Reconcile A/R Aging report with the general ledger every month end.
  • Work with management to develop and maintain accounting procedures related to AR functions; provide support on yearend financial audit and any other review or audit, such as HST, etc.
  • Ad hoc duties as assigned.

Qualifications:


  • Completed an advanced diploma or BA degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Minimum 35 years of accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in the Canadian Food Retail Industry is a strong asset.
  • Exceptional time management skills; ability to multitask efficiently.
  • High attention to detail and ability to work with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel and Outlook.
  • Experience with ERP systems; knowledge of Microsoft Navision is an asset.
  • Selfstarter with a high level of initiative and the ability to work in a fastpaced environment.
