    The Department of Clinical Neurosciences in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Data Analyst. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

    This position reports to the Principal Investigator.

    The Data Analysts primary purpose is to assist the Principal Investigator and the research team by providing data capture, extraction and management, and analytical and research support. This position is involved in a variety of analyses using different software and techniques, as required by the research team and Principal Investigator. Success in the role will require some judgment and decision making, following procedures and guidelines set by the Principal Investigator, and collaboration with the research team. Specifically, the Data Analyst will perform data capture, extraction, data cleaning, data analysis and data management. Other research tasks may be performed as requested by the study team.

    Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

    • Under the general supervision and direction of the Principal Investigator, performs data capture, cleaning, extractions, management and data analyses
    • Accurate and timely analysis of results in accordance with project objectives and deliverables
    • Clear and accurate database-related documentation outlining steps performed in the extraction, cleaning and analysis
    • Perform moderate complex functions successfully with minimal direction
    • Identify and correct errors, and validate output and results
    • Perform and interpret basic (Chi-square, t-tests, Mann Whitney tests, etc.) and advanced analyses (logistic regression, competing risks/multi-state modelling, and multi-level modelling, etc)
    • Develop and/or learn new statistical methods to better address research objectives
    • Assist with preparation, submission and amendment of research ethics proposals
    • Resourceful, innovative, and creative problem-solving
    • Require flexibility and the ability to handle change with ease
    • Establishes and maintains effective, productive relationships with staff, peers, and collaborators
    • Compile tables, charts, graphs, and summarized statistics for integration in research papers and reports. This includes materials for presentation and publication
    • Complete other research tasks as requested by the research team

    Qualifications / Requirements:

    • Masters' Degree or higher in Epidemiology, Health Services Research, or related health research field
    • Minimum 3 years of, related experience
    • A combination of education and experience will be considered
    • Experience with a variety of clinical, secondary (published) and administrative data assets
    • Knowledge of University of Calgary and Alberta Health Services policies on privacy and confidentiality and research data management is an asset
    • Demonstrated skills in statistical software programs (for example, SPSS, SAS, STATA)
    • Demonstrated skills in RedCAP database platform and meta-analytic tools (e.g., Covidence)
    • Intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and reference managers (e.g., Zotero, EndNote)
    • Excellent interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to productively work with a multidisciplinary team
    • Ability to problem solve in complex situations
    • Strong attention to detail is critical
    • Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills. Ability to prepare clear, well-written reports and documentation of analytic processes
    • Must be open to learning and development, and be willing to accept new challenges and assignments
    • A positive attitude and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are critical to success
