Reporting to the Senior Manager of Human Resources, the Environmental, Health & Safety Manager is responsible for the following:

  • Manage the overall Health & Safety Department & mentor a small team of Health & Safety Professionals.
  • Maintenance and overall responsibility for Governance of the Environmental, Health & Safety Program/Portfolio.
  • Responsible for internal and external safety audits and reporting to appropriate external and internal parties.
  • Keep up to date with current Health & Safety Regulation as well as Environmental Regulations as they pertain to our industry.
  • Responsible for KPI's & Corporate Reporting.
  • Liaison with regulatory bodies including but not limited to MOL, MOE, Police and Fire Department.
  • In collaboration with other departments, maintain the overall chemical management program and coach safety team to assess and implement controls for existing and new chemicals.
  • Direct team and participate in incident investigations, where applicable.
  • Maintain risk registry and work with team to identify hazards and implement appropriate controls within the facility.
  • Oversee industrial hygiene projects and work with vendors, and all levels of the organization to assess and implement appropriate programs.
  • Collaboratively work with Product Definition Team to review design drawings for current future projects and make recommendations to improve quality of safety controls.
  • Work with JHSC based on availability and build a trusted team within the organization. This requires participation in the Joint Health & Safety Committee and ensuring regulatory requirements are met each month/year.
  • Responsible for Policy & Program Development.
  • Oversee the Disability Management Program is compliant with WSIA, OHSA and other regulatory legislation.
  • Responsible for Training & Development Management (both companywide & EHS Team).
  • Maintain and oversee EHS Departmental budget.
  • Other managerial duties as assigned.

Skills and Qualifications:


  • Must have 7 to 10 years of safety experience with at least 5 years of experience in leadership.
  • Certification as a Registered Safety Professional (C.R.S.P.) or similar safety designation is considered an asset.
  • Must be certified in Standard First Aid/CPR and have demonstrated ability to respond appropriately to medical incidents/emergencies.
  • Experience in disability case management and ergonomic assessments is a must.
  • Must be fully certified as a Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) Member from MOL.

Experience:


  • Must have strong knowledge of WSIB requirements, WSIA, O. Reg 1101, Human Rights Code, OHSA and other applicable regulations.
  • Must have strong knowledge of OHSA, O. Reg 851, applicable CSA requirements as per industry standard.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must.
  • Must have familiarity with industrial hygiene measures/programs and be able to oversee implementation.
  • Must be familiar with Environmental Protection legislation and be able to maintain and implement changes as per regulatory requirements.
  • Must have experience with Disability Management
  • Must be able to lead and mentor a small team of Health & Safety Professionals.
  • Must be flexible, reliable, approachable and have excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to handle demanding situations and work well under pressure.
  • Must be punctual and able to handle tight deadlines and completion of work in a timely manner.
  • Experience in manufacturing.
  • Experience in the aerospace industry is considered an asset.

Education:


  • A postsecondary education in both Occupational Health & Safety & Environmental Management.
