    Sunwing Vacations Group is home to North America's largest vacation brands, comprised of the leading Canadian leisure tour operators Sunwing Vacations and WestJet Vacations, along with the growing United States based tour operator Vacation Express, together with the Group's own travel retail businesses SellOffVacations.

    Under Sunwing Vacations , we are looking for a Lead, Data Engineer to join us in making vacation dreams come true.

    As the Lead, Data Engineer you will be responsible for leading the team, design, configuration, development, and delivery of the Business Intelligence solutions.

    You will expand and optimize our data models and data pipeline, as well as optimi ze data flow and collection for cross functional teams.

    Director EA, BI & DBA, and will be located in Toronto, ON .
    Build and manage the team, assist with hiring and coaching
    Conduct performance reviews
    Plan projects as strategic roadmap, priority management, task identification and estimations
    Execute the project for successful delivery (on time with quality)
    I dentify and escalate issues and risks from project and solution perspective
    Design scalable and extensible data pipelines and data warehouse designs
    Create and maintain optimal data pipeline structures supporting the architecture
    Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements
    Identify , design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, etc.
    Build the solution required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and Azure Data technologies
    Design and implement data governance and data quality measures in the BI platforms
    S upport our software developers, database architects, data analysts and data scientists on data initiatives and will ensure optimal data delivery architecture is consistent throughout ongoing projects
    Build analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency, and other key business performance metrics
    Work with stakeholders including the Management, Product, Data and Design teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data needs
    Work with external vendors and partners to design, develop and test BI solutions
    Understanding of business and technical requirements, provision of subject matter expertise and implementation of data engineering techniques
    Putting into practice good organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and complete multiple complex projects under tight deadlines
    Ensure regular review of data systems to ensure optimal efficiency
    Ensure data governance and quality is maintained and optimal
    Keep our data separated and secure across LOB boundaries through RBAC
    Work with data and analytics experts to strive for greater functionality in our data systems
    Conducting of data discovery activities, performing root cause analysis, and making recommendations for the remediation of data quality issues
    Strong project planning skills, organizational skills, and execution capabilities
    Strong multi-tasking capabilities to support the data needs of multiple teams, systems, and products
    A data wrangler who enjoys optimizing data systems and building them from scratch
    Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases
    Build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency, and workload management
    Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, and highly scalable Cloud data stores.

    We are looking for a candidate with 4+ years of experience in a Data Engineer role, who has attained a Graduate degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems, or another quantitative field.

    They should also have experience using the following software/tools:

    Experience with Cloud Data technologies (SSIS, ADF, Datalake , Azure Synapse, PBI) etc.
    Exposure to relational SQL and NoSQL databases
    Knowledge with Azure Analysis Services
    Experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Python, Java, C++, Scala, etc. would be an asset
    Knowledge of Tour Ops and Airline systems data is an asset

    Experience working in Agile streams for complete SDLC life cycle process and methodologies through Azure DevOps or Jira etc.
