    SD Avionics is a division of Satcom Direct located in Kanata, the high-tech hub of Ottawa, Ontario. Our second largest site globally, this location manufactures avionics hardware, cabin routers, and the SD Plane Simple Antenna System.

    JOB SUMMARY:

    Ensure compliance to Satcom Direct's Quality Management System (QMS) policies and procedures, Health and Safety policies, Ministry Of Labor and Transport Canada regulations and requirements.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Work with internal and external team to improve Supplier Quality performance, including but not limited to:
    • Provide input to Supplier Scorecard review
    • Support periodic supplier assessment and audits.
    • Coach supplier on effective Root Cause and Corrective Actions (RCCA)
    • Review and approve supplier First Article Inspection Report (FAIR)
    • Support inspection activities, including but not limited to: perform incoming and final inspection, First Article Inspection, and Conformity inspection, as required.
    • Review Engineering Change Order, work with engineering team and production team to resolve any quality issues.
    • Lead MRB meeting and Corrective Actions Board meeting, perform trend analysis and drive internal team to meet process Key Performance Indicator
    • Support the company's QMS activities: participate in internal audit, lead corrective actions response (CAR), and initiate continual improvement activities.

    To be successful in this role, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty in a satisfactory manner and should demonstrate all competencies listed above. All employees are expected to adhere to and be knowledgeable of SD operating standards, established safety rules, and adhere to company attendance guidelines.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:


    • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, in lieu of which, proven work experience in aerospace industry.

    • Approximately 4 to 5 years of Quality Engineering experience in Aerospace industry.

    • Strong technical background, able to interpret engineering drawings, good understanding on Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing, and IPC-A-610 requirement.

    • Experienced in First Article Inspection and documenting FAIR in accordance with AS9102 is desirable

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to work effectively with all levels across functional teams.

    • Excellent problem-solving skills

    • American Society for Quality (ASQ) Certified Quality Auditor (CQA) or Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) is desirable

    • Experienced in AS9100 Internal audit is desirable.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    While performing general office duties for this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand and/or walk around (including the use of stairs). Other demands include the ability to openly communicate with others by talking, listening, and reading, able to lift light objects (<25lbs), and use standard office equipment such as computer, printer, phone and cell phone. In addition, there is an occasional need to bend, twist or stoop in order to open/close cabinets, reach for files or other standard office type objects.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    The office environment is generally quiet and, in a temperature, controlled setting with random adjustments in noise or temperature due to others talking or laughing loudly, unscheduled maintenance repairs to the building or its interior offices or unpredictable situations due to weather or other acts beyond company control. An employee must be willing to work their regularly assigned work schedule for their particular duties and/or job responsibilities and in times of need, be able to work an extended schedule depending on company/department needs, project requirements or customer demands. Work may require some physical effort in the handling of light materials, boxes or equipment. The temperature at client locations can vary from controlled to variations off hot/cold when working, standing or walking in or near the flight-line or maintenance repair center.
