    Description
    The Opportunity:

    WSP is searching for a legal professional to take on the important role of Associate General Counsel in the Energy, Resources and Industry (ERI) sector, based in Toronto. This individual will work closely with the Canadian ERI leadership team and operations. Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer of WSP Canada, and part of the ERI leadership team, you will lead the ERI legal team through strong alliances within the ERI leadership.

    What to expect in this role:
    • Act as the primary legal strategist for the ERI sector, providing legal guidance and driving innovation
    • Offer proactive legal support to internal clients, fostering collaboration and engagement
    • Play an active role in the ERI leadership team by contributing to process improvement and efficiency optimization
    • Oversee legal aspects of strategic business initiatives, ensuring alignment with WSP Canada's goals
    • Manage legal support for contract management, dispute resolution, and negotiations within the ERI sector
    • Assess and address legal risks in business opportunities, presenting recommendations to decision-making committees
    • Ensure legal compliance with commercial activities, safeguarding the sector's integrity
    • Collaborate with internal legal teams, sharing best practices to enhance WSP Canada's legal position globally
    • Provide legal oversight to cross-functional teams in various areas such as Ethics & Compliance, Finance, and Operations
    • Share essential legal knowledge on relevant laws and regulations with the ERI leadership team
    • Mentor and develop the ERI legal team to build a strong unit for the future
    • Serve as a subject-matter expert on Mining and Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPCM) contracts
    Your qualifications:
    • Member of the Bar of Ontario in good standing
    • Minimum of 15 years of legal experience, preferably in-house, with leadership background
    • Extensive expertise in Mining, Energy, Oil & Gas, and Renewables industries
    • Strong negotiation skills and experience in managing legal teams
    • Ability to advise leadership teams and provide strategic counsel
    • Expertise in risk management, litigation, and dispute resolution
    • Strong communication, collaboration, and negotiation skills
    • Financial acumen and familiarity with Health & Safety regulations
    • Experience in the ERI sector and related fields
    • Construction project expertise and presentation skills
    • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
    • Adaptability, resilience, and effective mentorship skills
