Job Number:48976**The position is responsible to build local leadership, to mobilize community capacity, to bring diverse stakeholders together, and to identify local strengths, assets and concerns to help citizens contribute to a shared vision for their neighbourhood.

The Neighbourhood Resource Coordinator is a critical link between neighbourhood groups and City departments and services. The position connects groups to the appropriate expertise, programs and services.

Working closely with citizens in the area where they live, the Neighbourhood Resource Coordinator is aware of emerging local opportunities and issues.

They inspire and support local innovation, bring neighbourhood level intelligence to inform decisions about the development and delivery of City programs and services, and they manage issues proactively.

This position is assigned geographically to serve as a key liaison, asset based community development facilitator, and neighbourhood content expert for citizens and Administration.

  • Facilitate strategic planning that supports citizenled initiatives and opportunities in neighbourhoods and focus efforts where they are needed most
  • Use an asset based community development approach to inspire and support increased participation in physical, social, intellectual, creative and spiritual pursuits that enhance individual and community wellbeing
  • Provide Orientation and Project Management Support to community groups for communityled development projects
  • Provide community event support to animate parkland for neighbourhood events (e.g. event consultation, issuing parkland permits, etc.)
  • Support and encourage interaction with city spaces and places
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders and partners to bridge multiple perspectives and negotiate common objectives to advance strategies and develop new or build upon existing solutions
  • Leverage strengths to respond to diverse needs and opportunities in the community
  • Steward processes and build partnerships to ensure communities are supported within City Plan districts
  • Build on and support community networks and relationships in ways that are meaningful to the community by empowering individuals and groups to participate equitably and thrive in the community
  • Achieve operational excellence through processes and approaches that are simple, evidence based, responsive and integrated
  • Utilize unique and different engagement processes to ensure equity and gather opinions from diverse groups and individuals and groups that may not have been engaged with in the past
  • Research, pilot, and implement innovative approaches to create streamlined & high quality services
  • Work collaboratively with Edmontonians and partners to meet their needs; including support to funding access; coach, mentor and provide learning and training opportunities for neighbourhood representatives
  • Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Recreation Administration, Community Development, Education, Public Health, Community Development Social Work or other relevant program
  • 5 years progressively responsible community development experience, including demonstrated competency in asset based community development, facilitation and organizational development
  • Knowledge of community and capacity building/mobilization
  • Strong project management and facilitation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate and sustain goal directed relationships, networks and partnerships
  • Working knowledge of nonprofit governance, accountability and effectiveness
  • Creativity and innovation to inspire new approaches to addressing issues and opportunities
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills and social intelligence, ability to collaborate and integrate with diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to negotiate roles and responsibilities shared between the position and external stakeholders
  • Political, financial and community leadership acumen
  • Ability to design approaches that are respectful and maximize inclusion and community participation
  • Ability to work independently, as well as in a team setting
  • Demonstrated understanding and skill in intercultural awareness and engagement would be an asset
  • Excellent organization, prioritization and time management skills are required
  • Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
