Passionate about Food and Hospitality? Cucina Market & Bistro is looking for a full-time Cook to join our team, working Monday to Friday.

Availability for both PM shifts and AM shifts. Cucina offers both an intimate Italian bistro and a vibrant grab & go market caf.

In the heart of Calgary's downtown shopping district, this 50 seat restaurant serves up breakfast, lunch and dinner in a lively, casual atmosphere.

In-house specialties include artisan pastries, takeout sandwiches, rotisserie specials and traditional Italian kinds of pasta.


The Cook is responsible for preparing all food items, based on Company recipes during our hours of operation while maintaining the highest standards to produce an appealing and appetizing product.

What you will do as a Cook

  • Meet to discuss daily production and preparation plan with the Chef
  • Prepare and cook menu as provided by the Chef
  • Ensure adequate quantities of menu choices are prepared to meet client demand
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work area/station and service line including equipment
  • Ensure high quality and presentation of all food.
  • Follow portion and cost controls.
  • Follow all recipes for food items.
  • Maintain reasonable cooking time during line work.
  • Follow health and safety regulations.
  • Report all faulty equipment to supervisor.
  • Work in direct coordination with all staff.
  • Follow all daily duty rosters.
  • Clean work areas, equipment, utensils, dishes, and silverware.
  • Store food in designated containers and storage areas for easy access.
  • Prepare a variety of ingredients, sauces, baked goods based on the Chef's orders.
  • Inform supervisors when supplies are getting low or equipment is not working properly.
  • Weigh and measure ingredients and portions.
  • Wash, peel and/or cut various foods to prepare for cooking or serving.
  • Receive and store food supplies & equipment.
  • Remove trash and clean kitchen garbage containers.
  • Carry food supplies, equipment, and utensils to and from storage and work areas.
  • Make special dressings and sauces.
  • Stock cupboards and refrigerators.
  • Chop ingredients for meal preparation following the Chef's instructions.
  • Use manual and/or electric appliances to clean, peel, slice, and trim foods.
  • Stir and strain soups and sauces.
  • Keep records of the quantities of food used.
  • Butcher and clean fowl, fish, poultry, and shellfish to prepare for cooking or serving.
  • Cut, slice and/or grind meat, poultry, and seafood to prepare for cooking.
  • Mix ingredients for green salads, molded fruit salads, vegetable salads, and pasta salads.
What we are looking for

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 2 years combined experience in the cooking trade.
  • Culinary Education Trade Papers, Red Seal or equivalent an asset.
  • Minimum eighteen (18) years of age to handle alcoholic beverages.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of foodservice and catering trends, quality, production, sanitation, food cost controls, preparation and presentation required.
  • Excellent verbal and oral communication skills, including the ability to give directions, converse with customers.
  • Highly flexible, with solid communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations pertaining to the restaurant industry.
  • Selfmotivated, with a positive attitude and a consistent display of professionalism.
  • Acquire and maintain a strong knowledge of trends in the food industry.
  • Highly effective teamwork skills.
  • Attention to detail in all areas of work.
Working Conditions

  • Must be able to work a schedule including early morning, days, nights, weekends & holidays
  • Must be able to hear well in a loud environment in order to respond to employees or guests.
  • This position will spend 100% of the time standing.
  • Must be able to transport up to 50 pounds on occasion and up to 35 pounds regularly.
  • Will be constantly exposed to high temperatures in the kitchen environment.
  • Manual dexterity is required to use knives and kitchen appliances.
