    Default job background
    Description

    INDEPENDENT ELECTRICITY SYSTEM OPERATOR (IESO)

    Requisition ID: 19727 Location: Toronto, ON - Hybrid Status: Regular Business Unit: Corporate Services

    Why join us?

    You've got great skills. And you want to use them in an organization where you know what you do every day matters. We get that.
    We also know that ensuring Ontarians have access to affordable and reliable power doesn't happen by accident. So we give you the tools, flexibility and support you need to achieve your goals, and development opportunities to help you grow. You'll thrive in a collaborative, team-based environment that values your unique skills and experiences – and recognizes that when you do better, we become even better too.

    Who we are

    The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) works at the centre of the province's power system, ensuring Ontarians have access to reliable and cost-effective electricity when and where they need it. We operate the province's electricity grid 24/7, design, run and oversee the wholesale electricity markets, and plan and prepare to meet Ontario's electricity needs – now and into the future.

    The Opportunity

    As a Senior Advisor, Financial Planning & Analysis, you will manage financial planning and analysis processes to optimize the achievement of IESO's strategy. Key aspects of the role include leading the financial aspects of regulatory filings and other external reporting ( provincial ministries and board); including strategic analysis to support a successful outcome and providing analytical leadership in resource management along with recommendations for management decision making. In addition, you will support the establishment of new strategies, policies, standards, procedures, communication vehicles, and management systems.

    What you'll do

  • Oversee, analyze, and perform budgeting of key corporate areas, leveraging best practices and exercising professional and independent financial judgment, to ensure alignment with IESO's strategy and corporate measures.
  • Proactively provide advice, guidance and well-supported recommendations, by monitoring performance and identifying risks, to support the achievement of planned objectives and management of risks.
  • Acting as subject matter expert and incorporating the assistance of other team members, provide leadership to financial aspects of the various phases of the regulatory filing process, addressing complex or sensitive issues to ensure a successful submission.
  • Liaise with cross-functional groups to address resource management issues, providing recommendations to senior management for decision making, based on evaluation of alternative solutions to ensure alignment with IESO's priorities and considering risk impacts
  • Cultivate effective relationships with business leaders and other key stakeholders, to develop insight, provide advice and discuss impacts in the area of resource and financial management, resolving complex, ambiguous and changing issues independently and demonstrating flexibility of thought.
  • Lead the preparation of strategic communications for various external reporting ( ministries, Ontario Energy Board), to ensure proper representation of IESO's priorities and performance.
  • Coordinate with Finance and Accounting team to ensure alignment of management and statutory reporting, and application of policies, standards and procedures across the business
  • Represent FP&A (Financial Planning & Accounting) at the Prioritization Steering Team to assess business cases, ensuring financial and/or resourcing aspects are considered and highlighted prior to submission to PPMT for decision making.
  • Act as strategic partner to Project Management Office (PMO), exchanging information and providing guidance on financial matters to optimize planning process and ensure alignment with IESO's strategy
  • Lead change to support the establishment of new strategies, policies, standards, procedures, communication, process improvements and enhancements to management systems.
  • Exercise limited supervision over others to assist on certain projects or assignments.
  • What you need to succeed

  • Requires comprehensive knowledge of business administration, accounting principles, financial and management accounting, reporting and analytical techniques;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to influence and communicate effectively across the company and externally;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, that allow to ask critical strategic questions and challenge basic assumptions, while building strong relations at all levels of the organization;

  • A period of over 8 years, and up to and including 10 years, is considered necessary to gain this experience
  • This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired through the successful completion of a 4 year University degree in business administration, accounting, commerce (or their equivalent);
  • Completion of a professional accounting designation (CPA – CA, CGA, CMA) is a requirement for this position.
  • What's in it for you

  • A comprehensive total rewards program, including best-in-class benefits and a flexible workplace
  • A challenging, fast-paced and collaborative team environment, where your perspectives and experiences matter
  • Leaders who support your growth and success through regular feedback and coaching
