The Organization

Winnipeg Airports Authority (WAA) is a community-based, non-share capital corporation that operates, manages, maintains, and invests in the Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport and affiliate businesses.

Operating on a multi-site property, WAA is responsible for airport operations, security, facilities, parking, ground transportation and communications.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Executive Assistant, President and CEO, the Receptionist is responsible for being the first point of contact between the public and Winnipeg Airports Authority.

As a designated bilingual position, the Receptionist will greet clients coming into the office, direct them to the appropriate contacts or services, provide general information in person and by phone in both official languages of Canada.

This individual will perform clerical duties, boardroom maintenance and maintain front desk security.

The Receptionist will also provide back-up coverage to Executive Assistants (EA) as needed and perform administrative support to various departments.

Most importantly, the Receptionist is the face of Winnipeg Airports Authority, and must always represent the Company in a positive and professional manner.


Responsibilities include:


  • Creates a welcoming reception area in the Admin Building for visitors, always maintaining professional interactions with internal and external clients, stakeholders and members of the public;
  • Assists walkin visitors with their inquiries and directing or redirecting any corporate inquiries to the appropriate individual or department;
  • Answers all calls with a bilingual greeting, directing calls to the appropriate parties, being knowledgeable in assisting and addressing concerns courteously;
  • Conducts daily checks of shared workspaces including the kitchen, and meeting rooms for order, cleanliness, etc.;
  • Provides backup support for various EA functions including but not limited to, assisting with extra assignments and projects, minutetaking, scheduling/coordinating meetings, events or travel for Executives;
  • Supports coordination of employee events and runs business related errands as required;
  • Validates parking tickets and/or taxi chits for guests/clients;
  • Oversees the customer comment intake process and respond in a timely fashion or refer to appropriate party;
  • Provides data entry, tracking support and document management for organizational business units as required;
  • Receives and processes information from stakeholders and enter information into various software as required;
  • Processes outgoing mail or items for courier services, distribute incoming mail and redirect incorrect mail throughout the Airport campus; and
  • Coordinates with Supply Chain for office and lunchroom supplies ordering.

Selection Criteria include:


  • Successful completion of administrative assistant or legal assistant course, or equivalent experience required;
  • One (1) year of experience in similar role required;
  • As a designated bilingual position, fluency in both English and French is required;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, and familiarity with multiline telephones;
  • Demonstrates excellent communication (verbal and written) and customer service skills;
  • Exhibits sound judgment and the ability to make reasonable decisions without direct supervision or guidance;
  • Proactive and demonstrates ability to anticipate direction and outcome to stay ahead of developments;
  • Works as a competent member of the team, willingly providing backup support for coworkers when appropriate and actively supporting group goals;
  • Demonstrates advanced proficiency by quickly adapting to new technology and easily acquiring new technical skills;
  • Attention to detail, active listening skills, strong communication skills, project management skills; and
  • Holds a valid Class 5 drivers license.

Condition of employment is the ability to obtain and maintain an Airport Restricted Area Identification Card.
